Toyota Motor Sales is pleased to announce pricing for the new 4Runner Appearance
Package option (AP)

Beginning with January production, the new Appearance Package will be available as
an option on 4Runner SR5 models. The new package, consisting of color-keyed
overfenders, cladding, bumpers and rear license plate garnish, broadens SR5 sales
opportunities. MSRP for the Appearance Package is $370.

Enjoy!

Thai,
Did i get screwed or can i get this for my SR5 as well? Im hoping i can order the colored key over fenders. Gonna have the other stuff just painted.

just curios..... would it be a waste of time to write to toyota and complain about not having that as an option to existing owners who have to pay over $1000 to have it painted?

Actually...this really pisses me off. I should be able to take my truck to the dealership and pay them $370 to have this done. I shouldnt have to pay the extra money. Its not like this is 2004 model they are offering it for.

The dealer I've been negotitating with says that it will be the 2004 models, not 2003, that have this option. (Of course, given that I know more about the product, I'm not putting 100% faith in him.) He insists that it will be 6 months from now that this color-keyed cladding will be available, not sooner. At least that's the party line from Gulf States.

Wouldn't it be logical to believe that either Toyota will offer a dealer-installed option or that someone will do so aftermarket?

i sure hope they offer the the dealer install option. If i would have known that this was coming i would have waited on buying my 4runner.

vaccarjm,

Did you paint your 4Runner yet?? If so, then don't worry about it! (It's too late)

If not yet, then hold off! I am hoping that your local dealer can order it once the word gets out. However, they may try and screw you and charge extra for "special" orders.

Again, i am not sure if this is a factory option or an accessory. It just seems a bit extravagant to be an "accessory".

"color-keyed overfenders, cladding, bumpers and rear license plate garnish"...i am not sure if the local dealer can just order these and tack it on.

Good luck!

P.S.: If you want, it does not hurt to email Toyota to complain about it.

Havent painted it yet. You told me a while back to hold off on painting it so i did. You were right...they did end up offering it.

So your saying there is a good chance that the dealer can do this for me then?

Well, it's worth a try! Just wait and see how Toyota will offer this option. It is possible that your dealer can order this....

Hopefully. Call around the dealers in your state/area to ask about it. Talk to either the service manager or part's manager.

According to Cliffy on Edmunds Townhall, cladding package will be a PORT package. This means that the dealers will eventually be able to put this onto older '03 4Runners. The cost may be more than $370.

Hope this helps.

That's great to hear, Thai. Please keep us posted, as my dealer and Gulf States claim that this is all still rumor that will not be resolved until the 2004 models.

In the meantime, I'm still anxiously awaiting our SR5 to arrive -- another week or so. :D

According to CLIFFY in Edmunds.com:

"If history is any indicator, here is how it will work. The dealerships will not be able to get the parts for a few months. When they do, the cost of the parts alone will be about the same as the MSRP of the option. The dealership will charge the labor fee based on Toyota's guidelines. My guess it they will get 2 to 3 hours labor rates so add that into the equation. Many dealers may never figure out that they even have the ability to do this."

Hope this helps.

Our dealer said today that Gulf States quietly confirmed that this color-keyed cladding is coming. They were apparently told that it will be available on the Sport model only, not the SR5.

I seem to recall reading on another forum that it will be on the SR5 only.

Still sounds like confusion surrounding the rumor, but at least they are admitting there is something there.

John

I hope it's available on the Sport rather than the SR5, but I don't think that's the case. Everything I've read about it says the cladding will be offered on the SR5, but not the Sport.

03 appearance package

To everyone wondering about this appearance package, I just spoke to the sales manager at a local dealership and he indeed confirmed the rumors. He said he heard from Toyota that is WILL be offered for BOTH the SR5 ans Sport Edition. He told me the dealer cost on it is around $270 and it would be very expensive to have it added later on. He says he doesnt think it will be offered as an add-on accessory through your local parts/service dept. and only offered as a collision replacement at a very high cost. So, bottom line is, if you want the color-keyed cladding, wait till its released.

By the way, here in Florida through Southeast Toyota he said expect to see it at dealerships mid-March.

Not sure what your post means. I have currently an SR5 and what your implying is that current owners will not have this option. And if we did it would be very costly? If this is the case then there is no reason to wait and just have a paint shop take care of it?

Also....has anyone confirmed wether the color match fenders that go over the tire but the exact same look or will it have the look of the limited? The limited has the smooth look where the sr5/sport has some indentations to it.

I checked the Southeast US inventory. It seems they now have a SR5 Apperance Package for $370, just like Thai said. There was no picture or discribtion when I clicked on the option. The apperance package does not seem to be on the Sport Model, just the SR5 model. The first shipment date seems to be February 13.

Once they post a picture, I will let you know. Or maybe I'll go to a dealer in a few days with a camera.:)
