April 2016 Meet and Run

Im keen for a mission! Hopefully at least one night under the stars is even better. I don't have a vote for any particular trail, as long as we're making some loop.

I've got another 3rd gen 4runner that will probably want to come play too.

Also, if its the end of April, thats my birthday weekend - so you guys can sing happy birthday to me and bring fireball to celebrate, just saying.

If you wish to be added to the list, take a look at the first post and let me know. It will likely be a long, but fun day of trails. Cleghorn is approx 1.5 hours without stopping for folks to run their rigs through the difficult spots. Pilot Rock is about 12 miles long and will take longer. We will most likely stop and hang around Pilot Rock and eat there.

Let me know what you guys think. I will be making small corrections to the first post from time to time.
 
I've done cleghorn numerous times. The hard sections can be done in a almost stock vehicle, aside from a couple spots where the skid plates may touch. The problem with a large group doing the hard section is it will take up a good portion of the day. I'd recommend anyone that chooses the harder routes on cleghorn only do so if they have confidence in their off road ability, and can zip though that stuff. 2n17x is also a challenge, but that trail doesn't reconnect to pilot rock for some time, so that group will be separated for a few hours.

Are there any other hams going? We can use that for comunication between groups when cb goes out of range.

[MENTION=123332]Drunner97[/MENTION] has a kid who will be there. Not sure about anyone else.

Personally I don't care if a Taco comes. Its still a Toyota. Only thing that would really bug me if it joined would be a Jeep haha
 
Also those debating going that are stock, I made it bone stock on some of the harder bypasses. Take a look at our run ( on the 7th page our so) or ask crazynorwegian

All are welcome. New and experienced alike. Stock T4Rs should have more than enough ground clearance for this run. 2WD and 4WD are fine.

I'm tentative. I blew a hole in a CV out in Gorman yesterday and then proceeded to sling my grease everywhere while we were wheeling. Short on funds this week from being out of town so I'll be ordering my CVJs next weekend when I get paid.

Very very likely going to have my 7 year old son if I have my CV axle fixed by then. He's shy at first but he gets social-able eventually and doesn't have a problem playing with younger kids.

From Los Angeles or San Diego, navigate to I-15 N, after I-15 merges with I-215, proceed 7 miles and exit at SR-138. You will see McDonalds to your right, turn right onto Wagon Train Rd. We will meet in the parking lot.

Cleghorn Ridge Trail is a combination of two parallel trails, one difficult and the other easy that intersect at several points. Beginning at Silverwood Lake, California Hwy 138 Google Map this trial offers ridge top views over Mount Baldy and ends at I-15 Cajon Pass exit 129 Google Map or back to Hwy 138 again Google Map The difficult trail runs from Silverwood Lake entrance to this intersection, the rest is easy.
The roughly graded route in this trail is suitable for medium clearance 2WD in dry weather. The US Forest Service has designated this trail as 2N47.
There is a separate 4WD trail (marked as X2W47) that runs parallel to the main route and is smaller. This one intersects the main trail often and has a rating of "difficult". The good news is that drivers are able to view the route beforehand and can choose the sections they want to leave out. The start of the trail has an easy rating which gets tougher as you move towards the top of the Cleghorn Ridge.

Pilot Rock Truck Trail is an easy trail as long as you stay on the main portion of the trail but by taking the many side trails along the way you can go from mildly moderate to dangerous. Only experienced offroad drivers should attempt some of the climbs on the side routes since they can become extremely off camber and loose, 2N17X will also intersect 2N33 be aware that this is a very challenging trail and is rated Most Difficult and does deserve the rating.

Bring a lunch, we will be picnicking on the trails

We could meet at the 15/Cleghorn, there's a huge dirt lot directly to the right once you pull off the freeway. We fit 27 rigs in it.
