Now that you've had that awning/room conversion for a few months, have you had a chance to use it much? What do you think? I'm thinking that this or the Oztent might be a better solution for me than a RTT, here in AZ there's never really a need for a 4-season tent since it doesn't get cold enough.
We have used the set up quite a bit. Just got back from the Toyota Lone Star Jamboree in Gilmer, TX yesterday. We used the setup all weekend.
In these pictures, during the evening, I would attach the ARB screen room for a bug free eating and hang out area.
In order to give an opinion on the best setup, I would have to know more about who is going with you and for how long. I travel 99% of the time with my wife, a 16 month old boy, and an 85 pound German Shepherd. Needless to say, we need our space. The Oztent, with several accessories, works VERY well for this setup by itself. We have essentially two living spaces inside a well constructed bomb proof tent. This is my got to setup.
The ARB screen room and/or fully enclosed room are also VERY useful to supplement the setup above, giving the baby a protected play area or a screened area to eat and visit if the bugs are bad. I also use the ARB fully enclosed room if I am rolling alone. It is much easier to pack and deploy.
If you go to a camp location, set up, then like to explore each day with the vehicle away from "base camp," then taking the awning up and down can get old. Something else to consider.
I have never owned a RTT, but it is in the plans for our XVenture X-2 trailer. But once again, it will only really be used when I am alone. The Oztent is like having a small house with you - BUT it packs about as well. Very big and heavy.
