ARB 2500 Awning with Fourtrek Mount Install

Do you guys think this could be used to mount the awning on my roof rack? I have the Rola Vortex roof rack with 1.5 diameter tubes.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, that helps...and sounds very similar to my use cases. When I go hunting I'm usually in the back of the 4R or in a tent myself...that's the use case I can most see for the awning with full cover.

But when I go camping it's pretty much always with my wife, 5 year old daughter, planning ahead for one more, and sometimes my 85 pound dog haha. I had also been looking at the Oztent but with an "either/or" approach...might have to adapt that to copy you with the "both" concept to better accomodate the family. But also sounds like the awning with room might do the trip when I'm by myself (don't usually have to worry about rain or snow, and if it does then I can just sleep in the back of the 4R since it's just me).

Except the fact that it is a b* to put on and take off the vehicle, so, I guess, I will leave it on for the camping season! It is equal to a heavy duty 4 seasons tent, I have no problem camping in snow.

Nope, I don't think this is good enough to be used to mount the awning. I don't think the configuration is right neither.

Personally, I use a Gobi rack with Gobi's ARB awning mount. Perfect fit.

I want an OzTent RV5 so badly but after lift and tires it won't be in the budget for quite a long while. My buddy has a few of those for his company though and they are amazing.

I am not so big on the attached to the vehicle stuff though because when I go camping I like to four-wheel in the truck. It's a hassle to tear everything down for the day so I can drive the truck only to set it back up when I get to camp. For my style camping, I prefer stand-alone tent and awnings.

I looked at them before too, doesn't seems to have a "load rating".

The best part is that they are cheap enough that you can try them out and decide for yourself, and even if they don't work, you weren't out too much money.

Also, I'm picking up my RTT from CVT this weekend and we came to the mutual conclusion of mounting to Thule racks for easy removal. It only adds another 3" to the height and with the way their new feet work, it's a breeze to take off. If you can shed some light on how you mounted the awning it would be much appreciated.

I just use Gobi's mount "just the way it is", and it is PERFECT, please post some pictures of yours and we'll compare notes.

I use installed the Tepui Aluminum channel horizontally (width of the car), trimmed off the sides (they come ~ 55", as I mounted horizontally, I trimmed them to around ~47"). And used 4 "vinyl-lined, hose clamps to attached the aluminum channel to the Gobi side tubes:

It is ultra solid.

This is how I've had to set mine up. There is absolutely no way to flip the mounts over without scratching the crap out of my roof. This works fine for right now but I would really like it to hug the body a little better.

I *almost* had it mounted on the lower rail but then it became impossible to tighten everything up once in position. after scuffing up my truck in a dozen places I gave up and ordered this other option.

not sure if I can send the fourtreks back or if I'm stuck with them. They are killer mounts, look awesome and would work fine in other applications.

I've got an ARB rack & I'm not sure if I'll be able to make the lower bars work. Its got around 1" sqare mesh on the bottom & it appears the mounts are bigger than that...

EDIT: Lower bars are 2" to the upper 1". Can it be tilted any?

Are you sure you're tightening everything correctly? The mount comes apart from the rack mount. I found it easier to mount the awning bracket to the awning first, and then tightening the bracket to the rack mount.

I'm sure its possible, but its so much more complicated than it needs to be. The Gobi mounts appear to be straight forward, functional, and should alleviate all access and placement issues
