ARB/Aftermarket Bumpers & Suspension

Couldn't find a good technical post/page regarding the 4th gen's but it's something that's been eating at me.

This is specifically aimed at the v6's due to power-tq/weight ratio vs v8, but questions is regarding weight of the aftermarket bumpers (arb, etc.) to the power ability/driveability of the v6's...and then adding a rear.... I feel like that's so much additional weight w/ front, back, roof rack, etc. on a v6.

With that said, anyone know if the 5100's/FJ are enough support for aftermarket bumper(s), or do people step it up to OME/Toytec/Etc.

Maybe I'm overthinking this but would love to hear from some v6 owners w/ aftermarket bumpers and how drivability has changed.

Just remember that 5th gens only have the V6 option, and so do FJ Cruisers.

You can do a simple spring only upgrade if you want to support the weight. We do that all the time in Australia with the bumpers we offer, and send a pair of springs out with them to compensate.

There's no doubt that it can have an affect. Just like if you have 5 people in your truck instead of 1, you can feel the difference very quickly. The ARB bumper is right at 200 LBS, plus the winch. This is why so many people started browsing around for lighter weight options. And synthetic winch rope easily dropped 30-40 LBS out of the front of everyone's trucks too.

I've got ARB front, winch, CBI hybrid rear with dual jerrycans, extra thick sliders, full armor, roofrack, 63qt fridge, a bunch of recovery gear, often a RTT, and 45liter water tank, etc.

The v6 is just fine. Not going to win a drag race, but just fine. Also, the 5100s hold up pretty well. I do plan on upgrading to Kings or similar this year, but I don't have to.
