ARB awning installed

That awning is sweet. It would come in handy so often. Thanks for posting pics. I will now proceed to steal your mod. :)
 
Can the poles be adjusted to the awning is more at a angle? I remember being under it during the rain and a steeper angle would have allowed the water to run off.

Yes, the poles are adjustable to allow for runoff.

I think I recall the options were 2000 or 2500, but it has been a little while since I was shopping this.

I have not seen any reports from owners of the set up / take down time / convenience. Have any input?

Any photos of it set up? The original photos from the beach were small / difficult to determine details.


What is the deal with the brackets sticking up so much higher than the awning? Did you consider cutting the upper portion off?

Did you have a rational for installing on passenger side rather than driver side?

If you can find or fabricate mount brackets to mate up with the two extruded channels on ARB awning, it should work fine. Bear in mind that the OEM Trail Edition roof rack rails are pretty short so you may be restricted to the ARB 1250 awning (49" in width) rather than the ARB 2000 model otherwise you'll have some 30" of unsupported awning.

The one pictured is the 2000 (mm) - ARB3111US. What I couldn't find in my research is WTF that length actually meant. Is it the width of the awning (and thus length of it on your truck), or is it the length of the awning unfolded? I saw people posting exact measurements, but without context. Well, it's the length of the awning as it sits on your truck front to back.

I've only had a chance to play with its setup once so far (I've only owned it a couple of weeks), and it was easy enough. It's not as intuitive (i.e. you'll likely be screwed-up unless you read the instructions) as I would have hoped, but once you figure it out you won't forget and it's easy to put together. I think it's easier with two people, but you can absolutely do it with one person. The only mistake I made trying to figure it out on my own was unrolling it completely and then looking for the perpendicular supports. With one person it's damn near impossible to go back and pull-out those supports after you've unrolled the awning. I'm making it sound much more complicated than it actually is, so suffice it to say it's easy to setup with one person. Also, no photos of it setup. If no one else posts some I'll try to remember to take some next time I set it up.

The brackets are from BajaRack and are intended to fit a variety of awnings is my best guess. There are three or four mounting holes on each bracket, but the spacing for this particular awning only aligns with the lower holes. I considered cutting them for about 23 seconds, but I figured I may be able to use the upper portion should I decide to switch awnings down the road, or for some unique roof mounting solution. Plus, I didn't feel like taking everything down, cutting it, painting it, then reinstalling everything.

I installed the awning on the passenger side primarily because I'm a contingency planner by nature, and I didn't want something in my way should I have to get out of a situation with the awning still setup. The other reason has to do with aesthetics: I wanted it to balance the ladder, and I wanted it to lessen any driver's side lean the truck might be prone to (but the 105lb Goal Zero Yeti I've been driving around with the past two weeks isn't helping that situation).
 
I'm still trying to figure out the mounting options on a Gobi Stealth. The only brackets I have seen are for the Jeep JK, not sure if they'd work on the 4Runner Racks. Also they are $110! Half the price of the awning.

Anything out there to put the awning on the Gobi Rack?

Bump! I just ordered the Gobi Stealth and I'm really interested in ARB awning as well. Would love to know what mounting options are out there.
 
FYI....new versions of the awning are out that are larger...coincidentally the OGs are now only 199 at TRDparts4U for the 2500 - ARB10 coupon code gets you 10% off!
