ARB awning owners, did you go 2000 or 2500?

I know this is an old thread but i wanted to make sure I searched before asking or starting a new thread. Im going to be most likely going with a 2500 and was wondering if anyone has one of these mounted to a gobi stealth rack and a RTT. I'm not sure why but i feel with the RTT the awning wont fit but im sure I'm wrong. Ive searched every where for a picture but I cant seem to find one any where.

I had the ARB 2500 with a Smittybilt XL RTT mounted on a Gobi Stealth without issue. Just make sure your awning is on the opposite side of the RTT ladder.

ARB awning

Awning we purchased was the 2000. Fits nicely on the 2007 4Runner.

We also purchased Fourtreks mounts to mount the awning onto the car. They were expensive, but easy to install and to adjust.





We are selling our Deluxe ARB Room with Floors (sort of like tents).

I went with the 2000mm because I felt the 2500 overhung too much. In retrospect the 2000mm doesn't cover enough as I'd like and I wish I opted for the larger one when purchasing.

Went with three for my 2500. It’s a decent amount of weight and I’d rather spread it across three mounts.

I have been wanting to pick up an awning for ages but I don’t really want a monster or even 3/4 rack. I have seen someone here mount a 2000. I would be leery of mounting anything larger. I would weigh the options carefully.

It really depends on a few things, how much does it weigh, what type of driving are you doing, and wind. Those things, take crosswinds while driving for example, the unattached portion, the front half of the awning, in winds will put a lot of stress on the rear mount, it will pivot on the middle. Same with rough road driving. Who knows what those stresses will do to the factory mounts within the roof. It may not do anything but the system wasn’t designed for offset loads.

Im running a frontrunner 3/4 slimline 2 with a 2000 ARB awning. I personally think the 2000 is the perfect size and have never had an issue.

I put a 2500 ARB aluminum awning on stock rails with LFD cross bars. Then went on a 5000 mile road trip through Northern Quebec, Labrador and Newfoundland, including 1000 miles of gravel and dirt roads. No issues and no flex thus far (knock on wood).

All things being equal, I would have put another cross bar on but I was running a Thule box up top so had to stick with two bars. Spoke with ARB rep and he said although they recommend the second mounting position be no further away than 1/3 from the end, it’s mostly for cross-wind/turbulence when driving. Not as much of an issue for the aluminum casing and he gave his blessing to go forth.

Doesn’t bother me at all. I keep it on all the time and I can only see it through the sunroof when it’s open.

I bought an awning room and it’s worked out well as a car camping solution.

What mounting brackets did you use?

ARB L brackets. They worked well on top two slots but I ended up lowering them to fit the awning room better.

They're not as heavy as you might think. I have a 2500 and i'd guess it's about 15lbs. Roughly the same as a single 8' long 2x4. ARB says shipping weight is 28lbs. Mine is a different brand - but very similar design. I really doubt it's even 20lbs. I'll try to remember to see what it weighs when I get a chance.

I have aftermarket cross bars on an otherwise stock rack. I wouldn't hesitate to mount either length to stock rails. Having any type of cross bars will help stabilize the OEM size rails a bit from the torsion force, even if the rack isn't mounted to the cross bars.
