ARB (Safari) Snorkel

I know that ARB doesnt make a snorkel for the 4th gens, but I was wondering, how many 4th gen owners would buy one ?

I have been searching hi and low for a pre-fab snorkel for the 4th gen and no such luck - the closest thing is the ARB that I believe is made for the diesel version of the 4runner in AU I forget the name, but it's still not a nice molded fit. :bash:

I hear ya,, Im sure we could "make it fit" but it just wont be as good, lol
I emailed ARB, asking if they have any plans to make one for us, heres the reply I got:

Sorry, we don't have one and nothing is planned.

Im sure if they got a few calls or emails, they might make them, ot I would hope.

That was not a very positive response! I sent an email as well just now - see what we can drum up. In the meantime I sent a PM to Alexjet in this forum I think he had listed a snorkel in his signature; maybe he has some advice?

I'll post my response from ARB when/if it comes.

Well, I guess I got the same "type" answer but at least it looks official:

Hi Bryan,

Unfortunately the only way to get a snorkel done would be to buy one of the 4 Runners and ship it to Australia. this rig was only sold in North America and we need to have the volume to sell worldwide. It's very unlikely we will ever have a snorkel for this vehicle.

Thanks again for your time in response. I know you guys make a great product and I know of at least 40-50 guys that would buy one up today if it were available (I belong to a couple forums here in the US). Just out of curiosity, are you able to provide any insight into production cost to resale ratio that would be required for ARB to even consider this undertaking or should we not waste our time? No disrespect, I just wouldn't want a potential opportunity to slip through the cracks.

maybe we should post on a few other forums, Im really surprised, a company THAT big, doesnt want to make these, they make them for just about any other rig.

Yeah I have read this thread cover to cover and even PMd AlexJet to get some pointers. He basically confirms the version he used was the ARB model for the Hilux (I couldn't remember that from my earlier post) and it took him like 7 hours total to get it on there. He didn't really put any photos or vids up of that process and all the other posts are about his lift(s) and lights.

Like ric quoted me earlier, only 48 more to go - we got to be able to dum up that many guys between this and other Yota forums? Do you guys have accounts on yotanation or toyota120 or ??

We should start some more threads just like this and see what interest there is in reality.

Good idea. I don't go to yotanation often I do drop in and out of t120. I'll bet 50 would be possible with all 3 of the boards.

I have made one work from '97 Australian version of Hilux. It was challangeble as I had to modify snorkel itself, fende, inner fender and slightly A-pillar. Worked well...

Here is what I don't understand. They can make a bumper that works just fine for this - but to make a snorkel they need to ship the car? All you have to do is get the measurements here in the states and send it to their manufacturing.

Bumper was made for LC Prado, plus it similar on mounting to Tacoma. After some guys re-modified it at their facility, they just productionise the mod. Snorkel in oposite is plastic and you need a mold, so all the fabrication is in Australia vs. Seattle where bumper were done and fenders between 4Runner and Tacoma are different in shape.
