Not sure I'd agree with that. I sincerely wish ARB would make a dedicated fridge/freezer with specific compartments similar to the Dometic or Sno Master / National Luna.
The upper shelf is basically a fridge, but you might as well just buy the NL unit if it matters to you that much... it's a solid time proven unit.
I guess it completely depends on your use case... but for me its a non issue.
90% of the time I run it as a fridge and really appreciate the upper shelf for think like bread or other items that dont really need to be that cold. I use mine most of the time for local shopping and weekend camping trips.
Couple times I did use it as a freezer, one was a 2 week long Yellowstone trip, and the upper shelf maintained fridge temps while the main compartment was a freezer... You essentially get that fridge anyways depending on your set temps and where you put your food.
After like 15k+ miles worth of over landing experience in the past year I realized that if I actually NEED a freezer, I need a trailer or a bigger truck to support those longer trips.
I would end up getting an offload trailer and at that point I would just get another unit of my choice which can be a dedicated freezer.
On trips like that, one is none... I rather have two for redundancy.
Either way, ARB 50 with a 2nd battery has been one of the best mods I have ever done, even for the times I am a city dweller.
