ARB Summit Bumper

I thought these where really ugly. But this pic is turning me around. Especially since you have the same snorkel as me. Looks tough.

How was the install?

The bumper is great. I truly like the quality and function of it. It just looks right too. My wife is from Australia and it totally reminds her of home, she says.

Install took me 2 days at my own pace and needed one more person when installing it onto the bolts.

Yeah I will have a aussie vibe going on myself. Plan on dobinsons lift too. I love the way it looks on your truck.

Got three questions for you.

1. Do you find the protrusion from the front end to be an issue ever? Bit of an underbite.

2. Are there really no rated recovery points on this? wtf is up with that.

3. Did it come with those round mickey mouse leds? I know it comes with the fogs.

1. Not at all. The lights take up the space really well from the protrusion appearance. The protrusion is functional though. It houses the winch perfectly and allows great access to the lights and mounts, should you need it. Also, as per ARB's design the protrusion is part of their design to crumple at the mount, sparing the frame and allowing the air bags to go off at the designed intertia in a collision.

2. ARB makes a recovery point for it for about $230. Key thing here is you need to install it at the same time you do the bumper unless you feel like taking the bumper off to fit the point. That would be a PITA and why I haven't done it yet. Most of my recovery opportunities near where I live are deep sand related so I have 4 Tred Pro boards at the ready if I'm solo or can use my winch as a recovery point if elsewhere. And if I need to be snatched I can use a bridal to pull on both factory lash down points IF I needed to. I do plan on getting a recovery point one day though. Also there are others that will fit. TrailTailor makes a set for $100 and it's both sides.

3. It comes with fogs and the side marker lights. Any other aux lighting is on you. I went with the ARB intensity style lights because they look the part.

1. Good point that's actually quite the selling point then. I have no experience with these kids of rigs tho so I wonder how it would fair side by side with a competitor.

2. Thanks for the advice. I will ad it to the ever growing list of mods. $$$$

3. ARB intensity style lights are dope. Definitely should just come with the bumper.

Does anyone have any online instructions? Such as a PDF or even a scan? I should have one coming soon and would like to take a look before I get mine.

Would this fit a 13?

I don't really care if I have to cut plastic away.

This. I can't really foresee any problems when you're going to be cutting plastic anyway. This bumper looks just a bit cleaner than their 10-13 specific model. It is almost $500 MSRP more though.

For those that have done self-installs: I'm looking to install this myself in my garage, any special tools I should make sure to have on hand before starting or any tips/tricks to make it go easier?

Thanks!

Probably a reciprocating knife or angle grinder to trim the plastics.

And if this ARB is like most other ARBs, this has to be the heaviest bumper on the market.

Installed today, love the way it turned out!

Anyone that is looking to put 33" tires on with this bumper, you will need to remove the side plate on the passenger side. There be rubbing.

ARB Bumper Weight?

Does anyone know what these weigh. The only weight I could find was the shipping weight of about 280#.

Is that a winch access door on the top, center, flat part of the bumper? That could be handy for reaching the clutch and plugging in the wired remote controller.

I like the Shrockworks and Pelfreybuilt because they don't require cutting the top of the stock bumper cover to fill in the gap above the bumper.

Not the case with mine.

After giving this some thought; I had initially no rubbing when I installed the tires about two weeks prior, a little at full lock in reverse to the passenger side but nothing horrible.

So when I did a 'u' turn one day, of course first day of a two week trip, I rubbed badly, took some chunks off the tire. The easiest solution at the time was to remove the skirt plate. During the trip I was now getting rubbing on the fender liner which was surprising considering it was trimmed for the bumper install.

Now that I am back from holidays and thinking on it I started looking at the truck a little more closely. It turns out that the passenger side of the bumper is pushed back about a 1/2", and is not square to the front end. I have never hit anything with the bumper (yet) so very odd. I also noted a scuff mark on that side of the bumper.

So to make this story even longer, the day before the trip I had my truck at the dealership here for an oil change. When I picked it up and started to drive away there was a loud clunk followed by a smaller clunk from the front driver wheel. Getting out and seeing nothing, drive slowly around the lot and everything felt fine, pull out onto the street and brake for a red light and huge vibration in the steering wheel that was not there when I dropped it off (brakes and rotors were only a month old). Head back to the dealership right away, the next day they diagnosed it has wrapped rotors and the clunk was the pads stuck to the rotor from them washing the truck...all so very odd. They did machine the rotors and get me on the road that day so my trip wasn't delayed, for a charge of course.

I have no idea what when on that day but after I picked the truck up I had two issues that I didn't have prior too.

Anyways that was pretty long winded way to say that once I get a chance to square the bumper up again I should have no rubbing.....sigh.

No idea on final weight but there two little doors in the front grill to access the clutch, the winch controller is accessed from the top, it is in the open.

Trimming isn't so bad once you start, starting is a little tough..lol.
