On a 2006? Man, you don't mess around!

Look forward to the pics.

I just got your PM this morning... those Cornfed spacers sure didn't last long! Looking forward to seeing your project unfold...

Where are you having it installed? Are they an ARB dealer? Did they order the parts for you or are they just installing them? How much for the OME setup and the locker?

Let me know if you are happy with the finished product. I live down in Ft. Lickerdale but I may drive up to Orlando if they do good work. Thanks.

WOW...cool! Can't wait to hear your impressions and see some picts.

Congrats. You will probably be the first T4R not associated with testing to have the setup.

mtnracer and others,

the place i am going thru is called 4 wheel parts. they are the cabelas of offroading. the entire set up, the lockers, (front and rear) the air compressor, the arb bumper and the warn xd9000 wench is costing 7k. that price includes labor. the shop ordered and is doing the install for me.

4 wheel parts does great work. a friend of mine just had a 6 inch suspension put on his jeep with 35 inch mickey thompsons. his jeep is awesome!

the install has taken 3 days for the lockers and the suspension.

i am looking forward to getting it back.

Holy crap 7K?!?!?!

Dude that sounds way overpriced!

I'm thinking:

lockers (750 each) = 1500
ARB Bumper = 1100
Winch = 800
ARB Compressor = 200 (w/ misc stuff)
OME = 800

Parts = 4400

Installation:
Lockers install should be no more than 600-750
Bumper install - $100? I mean it's not that difficult to do - 1-2 hr tops? If that so think $150 (75 / hr I guess)
OME = Install takes 4 hrs (75/ hr) = $300
Winch install (1 hr top w/ lines) = $75

Installation = $1375

Now there is no way installation can be 2600. That's just silly.

Maybe I'm missing something but that's some food for thought. I'm not bashing you or anything but the price just sounds unreasonable for me. Either way, that 4runner's gonna be one sweet runner!

GOod luck

apparently they had to purchase some parts from toyota for the lockers. also, part of the problem on the labor is that this is there first toyota 4runner (4th generation.)

when i get the final invoive, i will tell you exactly what the labor cost is.

i am also having some secondary stuff done like running a power line to my rear hitch for my warn portable wench that i have left over from my old truck.

i thought it sounded expensive as well but these guys are the only ones in town i would want doing this work.

Kudos to you for being the guinea pig, but I would never spend my money at 4Wheel Parts, they are WAY expensive. But I guess if it's your only choice...

Good luck, can't wait to see the results (even though my $$$ will be going toward the shrockworks bumper)!

Ohhhh..4WheelParts.

Did they say the bullbar WILL be available in 4 weeks, or are they just guessing.

Your the first I've heard who's actually getting one so I am very interested to see if the 4week timeline is ARB's comittment or 4WheelParts.

I'm not surprised by the price tag. Is an ARB bullbar priced at approx $1100, ARB's price wholesale or a suggested retail price?

I imagine if is SRP, many retailers will load the price up initially while they cover their arse fitting an unknown product - although it should not be that much different than any others they have fitted before.

Are you changing tires too? If so, are you considering re-gearing? I guess its a bit late now given that your truck is already in the shop, but I would have considered doing gears at the same time while the diffs open. A few hundred more and you'd have legendary status LOL.

Good luck.

Very interesting to follow your experiences you lucky dude!

expat,

the timeline i was given was from buddy king at ARB.

the $1100 price tag is what i will pay.

i have already changed my tires. (goodyear forteras 265/70/17) i had the cornfed kit before i went with the OME.

once i get my truck back, though, i may conside going to a larger size tire. what size do you think i can go to without rubbing?

as far as the gears go, i thought about it. i am not ready for that yet. in the future, when this is my dedicated off road vehicle, i will do it. right now i still use my 4runner for work as well as play. my plan is to buy a used camry in about 3-4 months and put the 4runner in the garage. at that time i will do the gears.

thank you, i do consider myself lucky.

It seems that if you use the stock wheels 275's is about the limit.

Change to aftermarket wheels and then your into 285's.

Anything bigger than that requires some mods eg a-arms - see Lances (Goodtimes) rig.

May I ask why you decided on OME rather than Donahoe's? Actually I'm kinda curious on some other issues too. Given that you have not long ago bought the Forteras which is a road tire, why then have you moved to lockers. Seems like you'd be much better off with some aggressive AT/MT tires if your having need for lockers.

Sorry if I don't come across the way I mean too, I'm just curious about your thoughts in the process of building up your rig which sounds like it will be awesome very soon.

I'm also trying to express my concern without being rude, about the price you are paying for this work. Have they given you a written quote and does it all seem in line with what Lance posted above. It does sound excessively high. It's not like they are SAS'ing your truck. They are all pretty basic mods although I understand there are people who fit lockers and those who can fit lockers (if you know what I mean!). Only heresay from my point of view, but apparently there have been several examples recently of people getting broken front or rear ends from poorly installed lockers.

Cheers

mark,

the reason for the OME was my research. I just really liked what I saw with ARB and all the work they had done with their 4runner.

as for the Forteras, initially I was trying to have a dual purpose 4runner. I was attempting to not compromise the interstate ride of the truck. the Forteras are supposed to be a good all around tire.

as to my thought process, that was it...a dual purpose truck...work and play. (i am in medical device sales and drive a lot)

I have now decided to put the 4runner in the garage and use a Camry for work. basically, I am starting over.

as to the price, these are the only guys in Orlando who I would want working on my rig. that, unfortunately, comes with a price.

the initial quote was verbal and based on 4 wheel parts estimated labor costs and worst case scenario. in the end my cost may be cheaper. when I get the final itemized invoice i'll let you know the break down.

Cool Dan, thx. Good luck with the build up. Look forward to seeing some pictures and a report of the lockers and your offroading adventures.

Cheers

With the OME's and the ARB front bumper you'll be able to upsize to 285's with no ill effect. Just make sure you don't use your factory wheels as you'll encounter some rubbing.

I would say get some 16x8 (4.5BS, 0 offset) with some 285's (MT or AT) and you will be fine.

The biggest problem people have with rubbing are in the front bumper region and the upper control arms and frames. Since you're replacing your bumper the rubbing should be avoided. If you get the aftermarket wheels you'll avoid the rubbing of the uca's and frame.

There is no need for you to cut your front body mount behind the front tire as you will not encounter any rubbing with 285's.

As for the rear, you may encounter some rubbing at full compression on the rear doors (I have) but not everyone has experienced this so that's some food for thought.

Good luck

Sorry, but I have two put my 2 cents in, first, I wouldn't let 4 Wheel Parts install a valve stem cover on my034runner, second, you're being way way way over charged, third, to let a company who is the scourge of the industry and haven't done any installs on a brand new 4th gen 4Runner, being a guinea pig on a brand new 4Runner is just too risky, and lastly, although OME is a very good suspension, for the extreme price that you're paying, you could have had the best Donahoe Racing suspension. I have DR on all four corners of My034runner, and there isn't anything better that I've come across, other than a total custom set up like Lance has.

Other than that, enjoy one of the best off road vehicles that Toyota offers, you paid for it, make sure you post up some pic wheeling it.

$7K OUCH!!

...

16x8's won't fit on the sport edition's because of the larger brake calipers. 17's are the minium.
