Are my rear shocks upside down??

So, I'm using a different mechanic and he says to me. Did you know your shocks are mounted upside down? WTF!!

Someone please tell me the shop that did this really didn't mount these on wrong! Is that even possible?
They are the billstien 5125's for my 2000 4Runner.

you're fine. change the mechanic.

They are not mounted upside down. Your mechanic isn't very smart if he thinks they are since the writing on the shock is the right way.

However, since the 5125 are a monotube design so you can mount them either direction.

Your mechanic is an idiot. Find a new mechanic. The correct mounting position protects the body from damage which would render the monotube design worthless.


This shows how a small dent in a monotube shock trashes it because the piston can no longer travel.

Maybe he meant your springs...it could be an optical illusion, but the bottom of this spring looks smaller than the top.

WTF! its not until he flipped everything over that i noticed the spring compressor in the picture.

Tell your mechanic the problem isn't that your shocks are upside down but that he left his spring compressors in there and you can't see them until you stand on your head.
