Probably A dumb question, but I had to ask it. I about freaked when I saw the belt marks had advanced one tooth after cranking the belt around once, then another after the second time. I assume it's normal for the belt to advance each time around. For some reason I thought they would always stay lined up to the gear marks.
Are Timing belt marks for initial setup only?

Initial set up only. Relax. Rely on the hard marks on the pulleys.
Thanks. That's what I thought. Just wanted to make sure before I put everything back together. Marks on the pulleys line up where they should.

Cams spin twice for every one crank rotation. So the minute you spin the motor your marks will go all kattywhompus.
The belt marks are great though. Some cars just have the hard marks, and you have to worry about where the slack is in the belt before you tension it. It can be tricky to get the drive side snug enough to not be off a tooth sometimes.
But with the marks, just get the lines on the marks, and pull the pin on the tensioner. Easy, peasy.

Actually, camshafts spin at exactly half of crankshaft RPM.

Yup, I read your reply and was like why is this dude saying exactly what I just said, and then I realized I shouldn't post and drive at the same time because I obviously can't. Haha
