Are you running 3" Rear Lift Coils and KDSS? Need your input

For those running the 3" rear light coils on KDSS 4runners, i have a question.

Did you buy a new Track Bar for that small bend they have? (in Icon's setup)

Reason being, is i am considering between the 2" icon rear coils (57200 model) and the 3" icon rear coils (52800 model) but after some searching through the forums it seems there is a "once in a while" need for a new track bar due to contact of the stock panhard and the kdss rear system. Most likely this pertains to those who offroad and not just drive on road.

I need some real life input if this is need to have item with a 3" rear lift system

Thanks for your input!

I have the Metal Tech LT, if you get full axle drop out, then this is an issue, for side to side flex, not so much. Biggest issue is the KDSS piston does limit total wheel travel as there is only so much allowable travel in the piston. All in all, you should be fine.

Springs have no effect on articulation and travel limits.

With regular travel Icon rear shocks (longer than OEM), the KDSS sway bar will hit the panhard bar, but to no ill effect I have seen. Long travel shocks would be limited by panhard/swaybar contact, but Icon's panhard bar won't fix that, anyway.

Agree, the spring rate will make no difference in down travel....The shock length will be the limiting factor.

Go for the 3" lift and don't worry about it....

I have 3" rear springs and they "clank" against the track bar all the time. Think I may dremel down some of the material so it has some clearance. Its almost microns im talking about since its barely making contact. I am getting a weird rattling sound from that same area but I have no idea what it could be.

All in all I am pleased with the overland springs. They are pretty badass and really give you the extra height you want. Be prepared to force those things in or remove the rear UCAs from the axel to give enough drop to install them.

silly me, you guys are right.

I am hoping that just with the icon stage 1 rear shocks that it will not cause too much of an issue with contact.

Just curious, in your specific case i know you have KDSS and also a LT rear setup, if KDSS is your limiting factor have you considered taking the system out?
Just wondering if LT rear was worth it or if stage 1 rear would be fine?

Awesome to hear! What do you think the reason behind Icon trying to sell their track bar to fix the contact?

I think i will!

Do you think bumpstop extensions are needed with a 3" rear coil and icon stage 1 setup?

thanks!

He had KDSS

You can't LT and KDSS at the same time.

I think he actually still has KDSS with LT. It surprised me also. I think you still end up with more down travel, just not the full articulation the LT setup can yield.

I sometimes run my truck with a stock swaybar and extended links. It works well, but I loose about 2" of articulated travel in the rear. It is still quite a bit more than a standard travel setup.

Interesting, yes i would think the two, LT and KDSS, wouldnt mix very well.

Now trying to find some photos of 3" lift setups vs 2" lift setups.

Seems like majority go with 2" rears and it matches a 3" front setup? I have to confirm this, now im think the 3" rear coils are not really 3" but a bit more.

KDSS and long travel don't mix ,as other have said the limiting factor it the KDSS cylinders. Remove the shocks complete and leave KDSS connected and you will see the travel limits . Just like shocks , when you lift your truck it can go a little before the shock tops out so we install longer shocks to keep the stroke in the center , not topped out not bottomed out. Well it's the same with KDSS when you put in a lift the travel is near the top and will limit down travel . It's the limiting factor like lifting a truck with stock shocks you can only do so much. Installing a long travel kit with stock shocks is what your doing. the hard core off roaders use sway bar disconnects, limiting straps, long travel shocks to gain wheel travel.

Just to chime in, I have 3" OME springs with KDSS and I have not heard the track bar make contact with anything in the times I've gone wheeling.

Not sure if it matters, but I called Toytec to ask about the need for an adjustable track bar. He called ICON and had a lengthy conversation with them. Supposedly especially for the '15s and '16s, there is an issue which (at least ICON) and Toytec is saying you need the track bar. I asked if this would mean the bar is needed for "any" rear lift, no matter what the manufacturer, and the answer from Toytec was yes..

I may be going with the new OME BP-51s, and will probably just buy the Icon adjustable bar for peace of mind...

good timing on the thread as i was debating whether to upgrade to 3" icon springs on my TE with KDSS. looks like i will be making an order with metaltech for their cybermonday sale :)

Trying to decide whether to go 3" or 2" in the rear.
After some talk with vendors. They said the 3" unloaded will probably be a bit harsh.
Considering I probably drive with no additional rear weight most of the time I should stick with 2".

How do you tell if you have 2 or 3 inch

How can you tell the difference, I just bought a KDSS trail edition from the dealer that already had an ICON lift, stage 5, from the trade in, how can you tell what lift 2" or 3".... it seems pretty high and even with 285 tires there seems to be a lot of space in the wheel well.

Icon rear coils have a stamp on the coil itself with the model #

Normally those kits will come with the 2" lift coils.

Well, marshal and wfo9, you're both correct. Still have the KDSS system, but have removed sway bars and rigged pistons to remain in the collapsed position.
