No new good updates lately. Bummer...

I will be getting some SPC UCA's next week though and possibly a new steering rack since mine is leaking.
Only reason I'm posting here is because I got this little boat that I take out fishing and it looks pretty good on the BeerRunner. To keep the 'beer' theme going I nicknamed it the BeerCan since it's aluminum. Cheesy but fits well since it's mostly for drinking and a little bit for fishing.

So I got most of the front end torn apart right now to do some upgrades and repairs. I got a set of new SPC UCA's for a deal I couldn't resist since I needed them anyways. Also I needed to fix those cracks that were in the front shock tower. The crack found its way back but now it's next to the weld. There must have been a hairline crack even further than I cut and welded last time without noticing. Now it's back a a little worse. Luckily the LCA's are still holding up good. I wish I planned this front end tear down a little better though. I'd like to replace the CV axles since one side is now clicking and the other isn't far behind. I'd also like to weld on some spindle gussets but I guess that will be another project later on.
One of the issues I ran into is the bolt that holds the UCA on the drivers side has quite a bit of play in it. It's not actually the bolt itself, but the spindle it pivots through. I noticed it a couple weeks ago thinking it was just the UBJ's but last week I confirmed it was the bolt. Any suggestions on the best way to go about fixing this?

Is this the pivot bolt for the upper control arm? both sides?

Would changing that bolt to double-shear preserve that boss? Total Chaos offers a kit for that, I think? (although I was disappointed with their spindle gussets - so you might want to roll your own, so to speak.)

Yes the pivot bolt for the UCA and only the drivers side but it has play all throughout the bolt. I actually just went ahead a bought the TC coil bucket tower gussets to make them double shear. That should help. Thanks for the idea!

I got my new SPC upper control arms on yesterday and boy do they make a difference! Being able to have some negative camber makes handling much better! I haven't gotten it aligned yet but I used to have a lot of understeer because of positive camber. Now it almost has too much oversteer. It may just be because I'm not used too the better handling though. Also having the added caster makes things better too. I decided to go ahead and replaced my CV axles while everything was apart. One of them was still good but I'll just keep it as another trail spare. The other had a torn boot that I was too lazy to fix early on and it was full of dirt and crap so I just tossed it. Previously I had my shock tower crack in two spots, so I welded it all up. Unfortunately the cracks came back but next to the welds instead of the same place as before. So I went ahead and plated it on the top and side of the shock tower to beef it up some more. I made a top plate for the drivers side a well. It should hold up to some more abuse now. While I had the shocks out I lowered the C clip setting from the 2nd notch to the 1st notch. I've been wanting a little less preload and a little lower ride height. Not much of a difference, but still noticeable.

Excuse the poor welds. I was rushing to get this done before the parts store closed.

Got some cross rails fabbed up so I can throw the BeerCan up on the roof when I go fishing. The first few times I took the boat out I had it right side up on the roof but the V shape of the boat bent one of the factory cross rails from being tied down too tight. It wasn't a very great way of securing the boat in the first place because of aerodynamics n stuff so I knew I had to come up with a better solution. Since the boat is too wide upside down to fit on the factory cross rails I made some wider rails so the boat fits better and has a better way to be secured. I used 1" x .120" wall steel tubing and 1/8" steel plate. I also added side plates with holes for easy tie down points. It bolts directly to the factory rails and is easy to take down with 4 bolts securing each rail. They should work perfectly for the intended use.

Also got the Total Chaos Tower Gussets today from Wheelers Offroad to make the UCA's double shear for added strength. Now I just need to find time to tear it all down again and weld em up.

Actually washed the BeerRunner for the first time in 2017. I've only rinsed the mud and dirt off at the car wash places. I even got all fancy and threw some quick spray wax on it. It's actually halfway decent looking now. Planning to go pick up a grill from the junkyard tomorrow if I can find one so it doesn't look so beat up.

Well I guess I figured out where that noise is coming that I've been hearing all week. It started as a light clicking sound mid last week and I couldn't quite figure out where it was coming from. Then after camping and off-roading last Saturday and Sunday it started turning from a click to a clunk. I was at least able to track down the problem to my drivers side rear wheel. So today I finally had some time to tear it apart today to find out that the rear wheel bearing is completely shot. I had a leaky axle seal on that side a while back but it stopped so I forgot about it but after this last week the seal obviously wasn't able to do its job and oil was all over the place again. Luckily my buddy is a mechanic and will take the 4Runner while I'm out of town for the weekend to get it all fixed up.

Looks like I'll be joining the 35" tire club soon! Just order 4 Goodyear MT/R Kelvars in 315/75R16 from Amazon for $289.99 a tire. I haven't found that good of a deal yet so I jumped on it. Pretty stoked about it but now I have the project of making them fit before my Baja trip next month.

I really need to start a build thread here. I have one over on Yotatech, but have been lazy and yet to start on here.

I have a 4x8 sheet of 7mm(3/16's) that I want to start a front of rear out of.

I also really want to incorporate a tire swingout onto the rear. But, I want to make it in such a way that I can add the swing out at a later date.

Got my new tires delivered this morning. They were delivered in about 24 hours from when I ordered them. Couldn't be happier with Amazon right now. These things are HUGE! Definitely gong to take some serious work to make them fit how I want them to (No Rubbing). I compared them to my dads 35x12.50r15 KM2's and they are about an 1" taller. Hopefully I can get them mounted this weekend and start the tubbing process.

Obviously they look much bigger in this picture but you get the point. They are big.
