When would ATRAC be used instead of Multi-Terrain?

Not sure I understand when to use ATRAC instead Multi-Terrain on my TE

The manual shows MT being disabled when the locker is selected so I thought that may be when to use ATRAC.

I turned on the locker and was still able to select the 4 MT modes.

ATRAC is not available unless MT is off.
MT is not available when ATRAC is selected.

When would ATRAC be used instead of Multi-Terrain?

i've used ATRAC when i'm stuck and the rear locker isn't enough.. ATRAC helps the front act like its a locker and has pulled me out of situations when wheelin'.. ATRAC can also be used instead of the locker, but it will lag a little bit.
