I know it's short notice and Thanksgiving week, but for those if you like me that have nothing planned for that weekend yet, I have a plan.

I'm setting up a run on Saturday the 30th of November (Thanksgiving weekend). Anyone down to hit a trail or two that day?

I was going to leave that up for debate. I live in Black Forest (just north of the springs), so the less driving, the better. I've done Illinois Gulch a coupe times. Decent little trail. Any ideas?

Depends on the trails because my truck is stock (for now, too) so I don't want to get in over my capabilities. I'm in SW Denver so hopefully nothing too far

There is a relatively simple trail in Monument called Illinois Gulch. It's an easier trail with lots of mud and a few spots with more difficult rocks. It's known for "The Steps" aka "Moab Hill". But we won't even dare to hit that in stockies. But that trail might be our best option.

Can you get there from Monument? I always take HWY 67 out of Woodland Park.

We ran that trail a couple of weeks back and it is in good condition, just dusty. With he recent snow the dust should not be a problem. I would expect a lot of ATV and dirt bikes that weekend if the weather is nice.

Oh goodness, yes. Woodland Park. That's what meant. That could have been a bad misdirection. But yes, out of Woodland Park.

That's part of the "Rainbow Falls" area... a decent local play area. You should pick up an OHV map... there's a pretty decent trail system up there that you could make a loop out of. I'd show up, but I'll be watching our 15-week-old and he's just not ready for a day of wheelin' yet! ;-)

At least I'm not the only one that's not willing to drive 90 minutes south. I've lived here for 20 years and have been down to the Springs twice. The second time was a couple months ago to buy my truck.

Love Colorado!

Can't wait to get back for a visit! I've only toured the mountains via motorcycle (Continental Divide Trail with detour over the Lasal mountains to Moab and back).

Out of all the states Ive visitied (all the west ones... and Wisconsin), Colorado tops the list.

I'm thinking of exploring down Toland road out near Rollinsville or maybe some of the areas west of Blackhawk.

My dad said he thought you could go down Lefthand Canyon with a 4x4 while they are fixing it but wasn't sure, though I bet the OHV area is down. Switzerland Trail/Gordon Gulch is fine though there's not really anything challenging over there...

If anyone is interested in doing a run north of I-70 give me a shout and I'm down.

I'm busy on the 30th unfortunately (Christmas light set up day and the big OSU-Michigan game, go Bucks!), but keep me in the loop for future trips! I'm in Old Colorado City.
