Okay, here is the deal. I have 4 brand new 6.5 inch kicker ks 100rms series door speakers and i love them. okay great everything is hooked up boom fine.

NOW. I want to keep the stock radio and wire in the brand new 400 RMS 4 channel kicker amp that I bought to power the new speakers. I mounted my amp underneath the driver seat and wired it in. All fine and dandy. I did my research and found out that I need to tie into the factory harness before the factory amp which is fine. NOW my question is how do i bring the audio into the amp? I already have the line output converter which was previously wired into the right rear speaker and worked fine for a sub.

I tried to keep it wired to that speaker while also wiring that speaker into the new amp and I got nothing but extremely loud feedback. so my question is this, how do I wire in my line output in order to get the sound to my amp from the RCA's while keeping the stock radio?

I havent posted here in a long time and any help is greatly appreciated.

after doing more extensive research what im finding is that I might need a 4 channel line output converter instead of what I had for the sub. can anyone confirm?

If I remember correctly the stock headunits doesn’t have RCA outputs to power your amp. Usually I’ve always ran aftermarket headunits to run my aftermarket speakers and subs. I know the newer headunits came with rca jacks. That’s why some people would upgrade their 20 yr old headunits with the stock Toyota units that were made by Pioneer. Good luck

Most amps can take both low and high level inputs, low being RCA/HDMI/ect. and high being speaker level.

So yes if the amp has 4 channel RCA in then that is the preferred way to go and you need 4 distinct RCAs.

The amp should then break up the signals and send a sub out + 4 sets of speaker outs.

You're almost there.

I just went back to my OEM stereo from a cheap Amazon Android, so glad I did. Since the OEM doesn't have the RCA's for my sub amp I used a Boss B65N to convert the hi level back to the low level of the RCAs. You could probably get two of them for your channels and hook them up accordingly...

One the right track. You'll need to get a 4-channel high to low level converter to take the high level coming out of the radio into the converter. Then out of the converter to the 4 channel amp as a low level RCA. Used to do that all the time back in the day. Some of the converters also have gain adjustments on them to fine tune them.

If you have the factory amp as part of your stereo (separate unit below/behind the head unit), then you can pick off the low-level signals there. At least theoretically - I haven't done it myself.

The factory diagrams show the wire colors for that...

I bought a 4 channel LOC. we will see if it works. I am going to try and keep the factory amp "hooked up" to power the factory radio and then tap into the wiring harness for the speaker output before the amp. this factory amp makes everything extremely complicated.

I returned the 4 channel LOC because my amp accepted high level inputs. I basically ran power from speaker side to the amp and then I bought rca to speaker wire and connected them to the output from the back of the stock amp. I left the stock amp and its wiring in place because I didn't want to complicate the entire wiring even more. Turned out amazing! Next stop is a custom sub box somewhere discrete or an all in one 10 inch kicker to go under the rear seat.

If your wiling to sacrifice the rear storage area a 10" sub fits in there no problem. I've also got a 1500W mono block stuffed in there to power it as well. 6 years of hard wheeling and it's still working great.

If you look at the OEM diagrams for the radio, you will see that there are low level outputs coming from the OEM headunit, that are then fed into the small amplifier that actually powers the speakers. I suspect if you study the diagram for a minute, you will see what I mean. My Land Cruiser had a similar setup. In fact, when I changed out the OEM radio, the harness I bought used the RCA outputs from the new headunit, rather than the powered speaker outputs.

I feel like you could just cut and add some RCA's before the factory amp and intercept a cleaner signal.
