Audio Questions..

Are you going to do a 4-channel amp?

I've been eyeing that Alpine but I finally decided on a $250 Alpine + Nexus7 combination which still left a lot of money left over.

Triple check the Kenwood reviews before committing to it. My Kenwood HU (Excelon KDC X897) advertises iPhone compatibility, but in reality there's an audio stutter every 30s (on Bluetooth) or every 2 mins (on USB.) Sounds like a CD skipping, no fix forthcoming from Apple or Kenwood.

It may be specific to that HU, which is why I'm saying check the reviews. Not slagging Kenwood in general. I switched over to a USB stick and have been quite happy with it since.

If I get the Alpine HU, yes, just the Alpine power pack though. I think it will meet all my needs. I have some Kicker speakers I have been looking at, and want to add that extra little punch.

Currently, this is according to Crutchfield, and I will check some other places for reviews. The Kenwood is a 4 star average of 22 reviews.

Alpine is right there in that same ball park too though.

Have you considered the nexus 7?

I had considered somethng comparable. I have all Apple stuff, so not the Nexus 7, but I had considered just putting a mount in the 4R and running on the iPad mini since I already have it, and considering I have been told there is an off-road map app. I guess it will still track my location, and allow me to plan my routes on it. I just am at a dislike with Apple maps, but I do want to have nav, and it will me a MUST to get an upgrade in sound.

I'm using the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Some issues with keeping it charged, but I love it. I has cell service so I can do internet and emails. I also use an app called Tablet Talk which connects via blue tooth to my phone giving me audio mute and displays the caller. You can dial out on it too. Also displays texts, although syncing is clumsy sometimes.

My intent is to run it through an amp and do away with the head unit altogether, but my money is being siphoned off by the motorhome at present.

:pop2:

I am sort of in the same boat.... Entire system I replaced when I rolled the it off of the lot back in 97- speakers don't last forever... at that time the Boston acoustics was the best out there. They are out of Mobile audio now.I think for component's I believe JL is the way to go...

Thanks for the size of the rear speakers...
