My solution was to take the bezel to the body shop and let them match it. I should get it back Tuesday. As for other components for the ILX-107, we are going with the Maestro integration setup and the Alpine accessory controller. I'm pretty sure down the road an amp or two, better speakers and sub setup will be called for.
Nice. I am also going with Maestro and possibly the Alpine KTP-445A for some (from what I have been informed) easily integrated amplification. What will you be connecting thru the accessory controller?

I thought about the amp too. I might do that one down the road. As for the accessory controller, it'll mostly be used for lighting and probably on-board air in the future.
THAT I don't know. The paint guy I worked with seemed firmly in control so I deferred to his judgement. I still can't believe how quickly they painted and clear-coated it.

I took my Scosche kit to a paint shop and was quoted a little over $100. I thought I’d give painting a try. After all, if it turns out lousy, I could always paint over it. I bought two spray cans: Dupli-Color BTY1600 Graphite Gray Pearl and Dupli-Color BTY162 Black sand pearl. The graphite gray was a bit lighter than the original color and the black sand was a little darker. Neither was egregiously different, though. I went with the graphite gray and think it looks really good. After putting a couple coats of color, I put on a few coats of clear then used some polishing compound to get a nice, smooth shine. Unfortunately most of my in progress pics are on photobucket. The door grills were built by Steve Cook at Audio X in Florence, AL. He also built the pillars and does all of my tuning. I have to drive over 1,000 miles every time I go see him but it's worth it.
I'll see if I can find some in progress pictures and post them later.
that would be cool, thanks man, Yeah im wanting to make grills similar to that, but never have made a mold for that kinda stuff. seems pretty straight forward but i know its not .....lol

Hey guys, love all the information and knowledge in this thread. I am old school and coming from an old LandCruiser 80 series, will buy a TRD Off-Road in couple days and want to upgrade my stereo system. "something simple, loud enough to enjoy at the beach and not too expensive". Per what I've read, you guys have premium stuff. Which I would love to have, but with 3 kids a wife and a dog.... they drain my wallet.
I have a sub Rockford Fosgate P3 1x12 that would like to use and maybe keep the factory stereo. Any help would be appreciated.

Go back in this thread to last August or so, there are some good options without going all high end. You can add a 5 channel amp, all new speakers and use that sub for under $1000 easy. Throw some sound deadening in when you do the speaker replacement and you are golden. Lots of amps have speaker level inputs that you can use and you don't even need a processor.
This won't be perfect, but will be worlds better than the stock stereo, especially at volume. Plus you can do it in stages... do the speakers first, then add the amp in later. That is my game plan.

The most commont low cost alternative on this forum seems to be swpping the dash speakers for infinity kappa series. Theres entire threads for that swap if you google "infinity kappa t4r".
I went with the focal is690 TOY and IC165 TOY speakers, a 5 channel amp, and audison processor. Im happy with the end result. Albeit with soundproofing and quality install wiring etc I am in for around $2400
Recently I did some research for a coworker to help him upgrade audio in his 2016 tacoma. One of the tacoma "tricks" is to use a factory tweeter from a subaru (made by kicker) to replace the factory tacoma tweeter, and then install kicker 3way 6x9 in the door. I believe they are doing this for under $300. Google "tacomaworld kicker subaru" and see what you find. That tweeter should also fit the 4runner.
its all going to be about your expectations. if you are looking for audiophile quality its gonna cost. If it was me and i was going to stick with the stock HU, i honestly wouldnt go crazy buying high end because your wasting money imo. get a decent set of door speaker components, that have a high sensitivity. throw them in the doors, put the tweet in the factory location. do some sound deadening. get a line out converter to a mono amp for the sub. you should be able to tap into the factory JBL, you should be able to tap into the factory wiring for the people with the JBL subwoffer to get your signals to your amp for your sub. If you do the work yourself you can keep the cost down pretty well. even going the dsp route has its limitations with the stock HU. they can be made to sound really good. i just wasnt willing to have a seperate volume adjustment to maintain my signal output quality. Like my lazy steering wheel functions
Im doing all ofmy work, and i am running a kenwood excelon HU, rockford power 4channel amp to focal ps165fx front speakers, and focal ps165f rear doors. did a good bit of sound deadening in front and rear doors. have a rockford punch 1500x1 amp and a alpine R 10" sub to be done at a later date. and im sitting around 2200. Of course if you pay to have it done, you can expect another 50-75% of material cost to be labor as well.

Looking forward to do do it myself, just wandering which brand and model for speakers and amp. Would love to be around $1000. I was running in my LC Kenwood Excelon, alpine components, and 2 amps for speakers and the Rockford sub. That was good enough for me. What "decent" speakers can I get for around $150 a pair? is that doable LOL
If you are happy with rockford, i would suggest checking out the punch 6.5 components p1675s, and you can get some great deals on rockford amps as well. I think as far as performance for price point rockford is tough to beat. I ran alpine type r's in my sti, and have rand kenwood kfc's in other vehicles. i would pick the rockfords if i could do it over again.
