The 2.5's have a larger shock body which allows for better cooling when doing faster style offroading. The 2.0's will heat up faster which will cause them to fade and have poor handling. Since you don't do that style of off-roading this is irrelevant to you.

If you get skids or anything else that will add weight to the front, you will need to do something with the coilovers such as upgrade to the 2.5's or get stiffer springs installed onto the 2.0's. The bumper paired with your V8 is putting those 2.0's near their limit. Did Mark know you had a V8?

Yes he did, I am a little peeved because he didn't say anything about them being at their limit. So, I can get a stiffer spring in the front to support some weight? How much will that cost when it comes time to get them?

Springs are pretty cheap. You are fine running it the way it is for now. But if you plan on adding much more weight (skids, winch, etc) then you will be better off with the 2.5's.

How's the ride quality?

The ride quality is great, rides a lot better than the stock system. So do these systems have good resale value, like if I decide to upgrade to the 2.5 after a while?

Yeah someone will pick it up I'm sure. If it rides good then I wouldn't worry about it. That's the only negative aspect of having to keep cranking the CO's. As long as you are happy with the ride then there really isn't an issue. I'd just relax for now, then reassess your needs when you add more weight to see if they still suit your requirements.

When people add a considerable amount of weight, they usually go with 2.5's AND have the springs upgraded to a heavier load capacity. The 2.0 and 2.5 is the shock itself. The coils are what make a difference in the load carrying capacity.

Ok, thanks for your lending me your knowledge again. So the shock itself is not going to fail if it is cranked up? I plan on adding weight but since I am in school I don't have as much money as some of you guys to mod the heck out of my truck. BTW yours is one of my favorites on here, really nice.

No your shocks won't fail. The only thing that will happen is you will degrade your ride quality the more you crank it (as with any coilover) and if you crank it too much you can get coil bind.

P.S. I am in school too. That's no excuse. :moon:

Haha, it is if you don't have a job year around. The smiley mooning is pretty humorous. Coil bind I am assuming means something along the lines of crank them all the way up and leave them there they can stick at that point?

What do you do to pay for all your stuff? Also, how old are you?

Coil bind occurs whenever a spring is compressed and one or more of the springs active coils contacts another coil. Of course, handling is affected whenever a coil binds. If the spring is compressed to solid height (all coils touching) during suspension movement, the suspension will cease to work.

Basically, your coils compress fully before the shock has dampened/compressed enough. You want your shock to control the compression, and not let the coils compress fully.

I plan on most likely going with the 2.0 from overland.
Maybe you could throw me some guidance. Down the road I'll be adding a front bumper, roof rack and I also have a V8. Do you think adding a 700lb coil to the 2.0 shock instead of using the 650lb coil would be to harsh without that extra stuff yet?
Not going to do the 2.5's as they are out of my budget right now.

From what HB4x4 says you should just save up and buy the 2.5 kit from OW. But if not then yes you could do the 700lb coil with the truck before all the weight add ons and it would be fine.

If you are ONLY adding a bumper, you can get by with the 2.0's like Autobond is doing. If you plan on adding skids, winch, dual battery, or any other front-end weight, I recommend you get the 2.5's or new coils. The 700lb coils will be very firm until you add the bumper.

Satoshi grill and blacked out headlight housings coming this Saturday! The FJ40 emblem had to be ordered and won't be here until sometime next week. The cheapest one I found was $45 shipped. All the one's on ebay are $70-$80 plus shipping.

wow im gone a day and missed some big stuff. so your getting blacked outh heads, a new grill, is that going to be like the on eon burtman industries that is like 700 dollars? and your getting th fj40 full time 4wd emblem?

Yea it's exactly like that burtman industries one. There is a guy off of Tacoma world that is doing the grill and the headlights. The fj emblem off of an fj40 front grill. It will be painted white and put in the middle of the grill. I got the idea from a guy on Tacoma world. Hopefully the black out headlight housing won't be too much black on the front
