Auto Shifter Rattles? Moves around a lot?

Here is what you need to fix it. The rubber bushings in mine disintegrated, and on hard acceleration it would vibrate and rattle like crazy. It also felt crappy when shifting in ton gears.

there are two rods one on the top of the shifter plate, one on the bottom. So you will need 4 bushings.

I can confirm this works. I actually had this issue about a year ago. The two rubber seals in there wear out and after replacing them the shifter is rock solid.
Nice thread with part numbers. Really easy to change for those wondering.
Takes about 15 minutes

it took alittle longer to do the bottom one since you have to take the whole shifter assembly out to get to them. the only thing left of the bottom ones were bluish dust in the boot thing that covers it

I ordered the bushings a little while ago and finally got around to installing them yesterday. Night and day difference in my shifter (both bushings on mine were gone-gone).

Mine doesn't exactly vibrate, but it clicks and makes weird noises when going over bumps and stuff. It's pretty annoying, and seems to just have started now that its cold out. I wonder if this would help.

I'm thinking I need to do this. I've got a ton of miles on this rig, and I'm going to be halfway there anyway next week when I swap in a new headunit.

I ended up removing a dead CD player and installing a cubby at the same time.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but would anyone happen to have the part number for the bushings to do this? My AUTO shifter rattles around like crazy, but I'm having a hard time finding it on the link that was provided. Says that part number doesn't exist or something? :shrug: I suppose the part number would be the same for a 2nd gen?

I checked the parts website, and they do appear to be the same part

My Gear shifter doesn't rattle but it rocks back and forth, like "sways" with stopping and going. My 4wd shift knob vibrates like a mofo though.

My gear shifter does the same, sways back and forth but the whole time while I'm driving. I can feel it with my hand on the shifter like its "floating". But not my 4wd shifter, that one is pretty tight.

Same here. I get a lot of movement with the 4x4 shifter. My auto shifter when I drop it in to drive, sometimes will click back up to seat in drive like it goes a hair to far then I tap the shifter and it locks in. Not sure if that is a bushing issue or not but maybe. I probably should look into new bushings and a new trans case mount or perhaps a poly transfer case mount to help keep it solid. hmmm...

Mine has started to do the same thing you are describing above. If you look into enhancements for either shifter let me know what you find out.

alittle movement is normal, if its alot, you may need a new tranny/transfercase/front diff mount
