Auto shut-off headlights

Has anyone reprogramed the lights to shut-off when the driver's door is opened (instead of the 30 second delay), in the auto mode? If so, could you post the procedure. I know if you hit the remote twice the lights will go off, I want the lights to go off when the driver's door is opened in the auto mode.

Koz,

I had this done (didn't do it myself). There may be a way to do it with the remote, etc but I just had the dealer do it during my complementary first service. I like it a lot better..

If you have the remote, hit the lock button twice. It turns off the headlights. It's that simple.

try looking in the owner's manual... there are several options as there was a thread about this.... the dealership can also help you reprogram it as they have the neccessary tools to do advanced programming.

I got my dealer to program it with the handheld, and also change my dome light to 7.5 seconds.

j0.

My 4Runner struggles to turn on with the auto lights, after a few times where I would start the truck and it sounded like it was gonna die with the drain of the headlights I leave the auto lights off.

MY ES300 with the auto feature works perfect, weird

You can't change the headlight auto-off timing yourself. It has to be done with the OEM scan tool. Depending on your dealer and how long you've had your truck, they might do it for free or charge you $25-$50. It truly takes them less than 5 minutes to plug in the tool and change the setting.

IIRC, the options are 0,30.60,90 and 120 seconds. I have mine set to 0 so they go off when I open the driver's door.

That shouldn't happen.
