Auto to manual swap...

I am a newbe and used the search function.
I have searched for a week here and all other forums i could find. I came up with very little. Someone must have done this swap from an Automatic trans to a Manual trans?
I am wanting to do it on a 1999 t4r. with a 3.4L v6.
I have seen people say just get a manual t4r, if i could find one i would. I have also seen that you need to change the ecu, the harness and of course the trans.

There is a guy here named torito-something that has done it, and one or 2 on yotatech that have done it. Just do a regular google search and I am sure your will find the thread here and at yotatech.

And there is a reason people say just get a manual T4R. The swap is very labor intensive and you need to know what you are doing. If you are coming here looking for info on how to do it, then you probably can't do it. Not saying that to insult you, I went though the same thing, wanting to swap mine. I have since given up after realizing just how much work and detail goes into it.

Lol i was gonna say the same thing, if you need to ask, you likely dont have the skills and tools to do it. Just sell your 4runner and buy a manual one, its not a popular swap like putting an 02M in Jetta tdi with an automatic, or a ZF automatic in a 3.9l V8 land rover.

well i will just go ahead a say it, i have been working on cars over 6years at dealerships, i went to school, i am a master ase tech. and i sold my last project car because we needed money. it was a 98 subaru impreza rs, i pulled the 4 cyl. put in a 6 cyl. modded the radiator, the exhaust. i had the car cranking and running for a couple seconds at a time. i needed more time and money which i didn't have. sorry if that seems too harsh but i think i am can do it.
i just wanted to know if it was a popular swap and if it is even possible with out a harness swap and or ecu, and axles and drive shafts.

oh and it really wasn't going to be for a 4runner. i was going to do a off the wall swap that really doesn't have a purpose excpet for i want to do it --- 1990 mazda miata with a 99 4runner engine supercharged and trans (or different trans). i know it really isn't worth the money or effort but i still want to do it. (the wife doen't know yet either....i am in the research stage.)

If you can find a write-up with everything figured out for you, I'm sure you could follow the steps and do it. Try looking on ttora and pirate4x4. I personally don't think it's worth it, but I also understand doing things that please you, regardless of whether it makes financial sense.

Hell, look at all the people that spend 3, 4 or even 5 Gs on a SAS when you could just buy a complete, running '85 Yota for that.

yea basically. i have to have a project in "the works" either in researching or doing.
yea it makes no sense to do what i said before, but the way i see it, it keeps me sane (kinda).
plus i think i might like the 4runner.

I would do an LS3 swap if i were you, but LS9 would be ideal but im not sure that you would ever get anywhere because you just smoke up the rears when you look at the gas pedal.

i have looked into it. but i actually wat less power than that, but more that bolt on's for the 4cyl.
