"Auto" Window Switch

So I seem to be the only one thinking this but just in case I missed it.... Has anyone tried to put a Drivers window switch in the Passengers position to make it also "Automatic"? Or is there a relay involved and this is just wishful thinking?

I know it would be as easy as switching the drivers for the passengers to see but I am currently out of the country and driving a rental Audi that has reminded me how much I miss this supremely simple idea of having both front windows go down and up automatically (would be better for all window switches on drivers panel for all cars).

It's been discussed before. I asked the same question last year after moving from a 3rd gen to a 4th gen. The 3rd gen had 'auto' driver and passenger, but the 4th's don't. If I remember correctly, it requires a relay. The part is not cheap and isn't an easy swap. If you do a search, you will find 2 or 3 threads discussing this. I think someone had a aftermarket option to solve this problem. I decided to get used to it as it's a small price to pay for a v8.

i thought people also said you would need a new window regulator, not just a switch/relay, but i could be wrong.

You are correct. The Toyota and Lexus vehicles that have the auto down on all (or other) windows have a module built in with the regulators that control this, as well as the different switch panels.

Aftermarket solutions to this would be alarm roll up modules. They generally allow single press of the switch, and roll all the way up, or all the way down as an added feature. You really don't even need the aftermarket alarm to go with it to take advantage of this.

Directed 529t would ad that option to the passenger window. It would only require power, ground and 4 connections to the two window wires. This could all be done pretty easy if you just want this to work from the drivers door control. If you want it to work from the passenger switch you would need to interrupt the window wires in the passenger door. I could help if you like as I just did this to mine a couple weeks ago.
