Automatic Headlights?????

2 questions.
1 - I'm new, but do the 1999 4wd SR5's have automatic headlights or am I crazy? Sometimes I forget and it shuts off but I've only left it like that for very short periods and it the truck turns on again - Curious.
2 - What does DRL stand for, I'm drawing a blank - Daytime Running Lights?

Not sure if I am understanding your question fully. But if I leave my switch on...turn off truck...my lights stay on till I open the door at which time they shut off automatically. DRL=daytime running lights.

Yes exactly it! Will they stay off and not drain the battery? That is my main concern, that it won't drain the battery and basically it doesn't even matter if they are left in the on position.

It wont drain the battery. Once the key is out and the door is opened, the lights shut off until you put key back in ignition

Just like Jbot said. They won't automatically turn on like newer vehicles will if it gets dark. But they will stay on while the vehicle power is on. Once you open the door they turn off. I don't see the need for running them all the time. Just burns the bulbs out faster.

I don't see the need for running them all the time. Just burns the bulbs out faster.

Its much safer to drive with full lights on all the time. Bulbs are cheap.

My '97 didn't do this either, so when I got my '99 I was pleasantly surprised with this feature. I usually just leave the headlight switch in the "on" position. Never had any issues with draining the battery.

Have you found touch up paint? We have the same year in the same color and can't find paint anywhere.

I believe it has to be the drivers door for the lights to turn off, one day while checking the lights i reached in through passenger side, took the key out, closed passenger door. Lights still on when i came outside a few hours later
