Awning Preference ?

Looking at picking up an awning for my vehicle. Currently running the Frontrunner Slimelin 3/4 rack. I've been debating between the ARB awning, frontrunner one of Ironman 4x4 and was curious about others opinions.

Wanted to get the best build for my money.

Any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Another brand you can check out is Roam. I just recently got their 5' awning. I haven't had a chance to get out and use it but it fits perfectly on my LFD 3/4 rack and seems to be built really well.

Lots of awning brands out there. 23Zero, CVT, ARB, Shittybuilt, Darche, Alu Cab and more, that's all I can think of. I still haven't decided which one I am going to get if at all. Then you have the option of the regular square awing, 180, or 270 degrees.

And then you have this one that is a 270 degrees for $400.

2nd ROAM. Quite literally built in the same factories as all the other name brands with a lot less markup! Had mine for 3 years now, no issues whatsoever, would buy the exact same one again.

Also, the extrusions are identical to ARB, so all the accessories (rooms, wind panels, add on tents, etc) will fit just the same.

Extrusion appears to be identical to the one they show on their website and the center to center distance for the channels appears to be ~42mm, which is within the range of their slots. I would say YES

I have a 23Zero on order. Like the 270 coverage for sun angle and the 5 arm vs 6 arm options out there so the hatch doesn’t hit an arm.

Robust so you can pull it around without setting up legs. No wind you don’t need to deploy the legs, like stopping for lunch. Pivots are cast and not plastic, like others

I have one of the chineseum of brand ones. Paid about $100 for it in eBay or Alibaba. Can't remember. Works great. I also have a real ARB deluxe awning tent. The work perfectly well together.

The biggest benefit of the real ARB is the fabric is better quality. Mine is a light weight ripstop nylon. The ARB is about double the fabric weight. Otherwise they are nearly identical. All the extrusions are identical visually.

The only difference is if you start to get into the higher end brands like Eezi-Awn, James Baroud, hard case or 270 awnings. If your just getting a normal 2M or 2.5M roll out awning I'd recommend the cheapest one you can get. Ironman 4x4 is running some good deals on them right now and what I like about their awnings is the integrated LED light strip. That would be my vote for price and quality.

I think the quick release bracket would be cool to install too so you can take it off at home really easily and store it in the garage. So for the LED strip, do you just run the 12v wire in through a window and plug it into to the 12v plug in the 4Runner?

I like their awning xtra accessory for their awnings as well. I currently have an ARB and Rhino Rack awning but hoping it fits the ironman accessories using the c-channel slot. Looks a bit more functional than a typical awning windbreak.

Decided to go with ROAM. I liked the idea of the 5 ft option vs 6 given the roof rack I am using.

Now I just have to wait for it to arrive.

Do these just mount right to the roof rails? Work for a stock Pro rack?

Look into the Overland Vehicle Systems new Nomadic line of awnings. They are built like a tank and if you keep an eye out campsaver.com as periodic sales with 20% off. I got my Nomadic 270 awning for $720, and that about half the price of an Alu Cab awning and they are built almost the same way.

Yes it does. That is what I am currently using with mine. Super secure.

I ordered the 6m x 6.5m Ironman awning with the tent. If you are interested I can tell you exactly what I ordered in order to make it work. The quick release brackets are awesome, less than a minute to take it off and store in garage. The LED strip that comes with it is an added bonus. Works great. I have it on in the second pic although it is daylight and hard to see. I can fit a full size 7ft. long cot in the tent so that is what I will be doing when I am by myself.

It is mountain on the stock roof rails with 2 LFD cross bars. I can also fit my my Hi-lift jack, my XBulls, and looks like I will be able to mount my 4 gallon Rotopax with a total of 5 cross bars. With 5 though I am only going to be able to use one Rotopax mount. I will have to get another LFD crossbar for a double mount 4 gallon Rotopax. But I think I can make it work with just one lockable Rotopax mount. I will let you know.

No added noise, works fine on the highway. Does bounce a little on very rough 4Wheel drive roads but still does fine. You would have to put it on a full length rack to keep it from bouncing at all.
