Recently made the buy back into the Toyota community with a 2001 T4R Limited. Cant believe it took me 3 years to get back to the community but after an 02 Taco and an 07 Tundra, I shoulda realized a 97 Ford Ranger wasn't going to keep me satisfied, but alas here I am back with the 4runner.

Question I have is, the new ride has a little play in the brake pedal. This play makes the truck come to a COMPLETE stop when pushed too hard but lets the brakes work well when eased into a stop (not a really long ease, but enough to think something may need to be looked at). What would you suggest I look into first? I read a lot about axel seals and master cylinders and pedal tension, but what would be the best to look at first? Im NO mechanic, but not afraid to jack something up (or make it work) to a point where a mechanic will HAVE to look at it.

Getting into axles and master cyclenders gets pricey really fast. So does a Tundra break swap which is a good beginner level mod, but may not be your problem.

I would suggest starting with the basics which can be done with some reading, a bottle of brake fluid and a friend. There are some great write ups on how to adjust rear brakes, do brake fluid flushes and adjust our e-brake. I would start there, once you check those off then it may be time to dig deeper or go to a trusted shop.

What MojaveMan said. When I replaced my front brakes last week I didn't bleed em all enough and had exactly the feel you had in ur brake pedal. Re-bled them and they are perfect now :biggrin1:

Awesome stuff. I will be diving into bleeding the brakes this weekend. Thought that might be the first suggestion and glad it was, may be just my fix. BUT, I am at 171,800 miles so it might be something more substantial. I will check all the write ups out. Thanks folks!
