Ele'ele: Sure it's possible. As I understand it, the backup camera activates when the vehicle transmission is placed in reverse. The reverse senor signal is what, I think, turns the camera on. Here's the tricky part, you have to find out if the reverse signal is a ground (low) or 12vdc (high). Whichever it is, that's what you have to use to turn the camera on when you're not in reverse.
I just ordered the Toyota navigation system for my 2003 T4R. When I get it, I have to splice into the reverse sensor signal myself so the system knows which way I'm headed. When I do, I can find out if it's a high or low signal.
After that it's a matter of installing a switch, a diode, and some wire splices.
Are you planning on doing this mod yourself?

Thanks for the Reply. I have the factory unit installed but sometimes when I am at the stop light or driving I wish I could turn the camera on. I read from other threads that it is a matter of finding and or grounding the reverse wire, the ? is , which one is it. When you get to that point, it would be great if you could let me know. Thanks.

yep....totally possible to override the rev sensor wire. it goes to +12v when in rev, IIRC. I have this done on my 4runner...(don't ahve the camera installed again yet, but...worked in the 2003 I had it setup with).
