Back window switch

My back window switch stopped working. I tried beating it into submission without any luck. I am dreading going to the dealer to get the part because i know it will cost a lot. Do they sell them aftermarket or can i repair it?

If your good with a pocket screw driver I took mine apart. Be careful of the spring and contact placement/ white pivot. Clean the contacts up. Pop it all back together. Fixed mine

Re you sure its the switch?

I am pretty sure its the switch, i motivated it to work a few weeks ago with a light gentle tap of the fist

Not sure about the repair. Of course if it is broke then it won't get more broke by opening it up to see if you can fix it.

Anyone parting out a T4R whould have the switch for a few bucks. I've been trying to fix a buddy's switch but have not got around to swapping switches. It can also be the window lock next to the switch.

I'm wondering if the console switch and the key switch on the tailgate are independent of each other. Because I get power on the the console switch, but have not tried to short it to make the back window go up and down.

My switch went out in my 92... I blew it out with air a couple times and it worked a couple more times.... it ended up sticking in the up position. I could roll it down but had to press the window lock to make it stay or else it would go right back up on its own. Eventually it failed all together and I had to use the rear key switch. (Yes the key switch is on a separate circuit than the interior)
I couldnt find a rocker switch to work in its place... but after I replaced it from a 92 roll over I bought for 500 bucks (complete with running 3.slow 5 spd and all mechanical... including 4.56's....anyway) I found that NAPA had an assortment of rocker switches that may have worked. Pop it out, unplug it and take it to NAPA... A.zone, Oreilly and Advance didnt have squat for my needs.
Good luck, parts are getting HARD to find for 2nd gen's.

If you could not find it in a junkyard, you can try cleaning. In the past 26 years, at least someone must have spilled a drink in there and messed up the contacts.

If your switches are similar to the 89 Runner's (here) those are easier to take apart than a 86-88 runners.

If you don't want to take it apart, a good method would be swish it around in warm soapy water, actuate back and forth, repeat xxxx times. Rinse with pure water, even better yet, repeat above with with Isoproplyl alcohol to flush most of the water out, then blow with bottled air or simply shake to get most fluids out. When dry, test continuity. It's just a momentary single-pole double-throw with center off.

If that doesn't work just replace with any Momentary SPDT, center-off, of your choice.

AND relocate those switches to more logical location - the dash, where there's plenty of space for them and where you'd be less likely to spill more drink on them.
