Back window won't roll down

My tail gate window won't roll down. I've been having trouble getting the key fob to work and I could only roll down the window with the dash switch.

Now I put in a back up camera. Didn't splice any wires connected to the window. Now I got nothing. Heard a click for a bit now nothing.

If you disconnected the battery the window will forget how to roll down. I'm not sure what's the procedure to get it to relearn. I'm having the same issue right now.

No fuse direct to the back window. I checked what I think is every fuse and the look fine. Maybe a relay????

Any thoughts. I checked a bunch of threads. The reset doesn't work either.

My battery died on me and when I changed it. I noticed in the engine bay area it had this little message part of the plastic cover.

At first I forgot about the little note and was like "damn I just fu**** something up, the only I did was change the battery" lol
Then I remember the message.

we have a jump box here at work, with a 12v adapter. its specifically meant to avoid situations such as this.
I used it when I swapped my battery out, it worked great.

turn the key ON, plug in the adapter, and make sure the jump box is on, then disconnect the battery. you will need to take care not to touch any cables, as there is still juice in the system. but, this way, there is never a loss of power, so no need to reset anything.

It's not the auto function. So the reset didn't work. I press the button and it does nothing, window doesn't move.

I thought I blew a fuse or a relay went bad. But idk which relay nor how to test one.

I did disconnect the wires to the window motor to run my camera cables so they weren't in the window tracks. I swear I heard a pop when I put it back together. But that might be in my head. Lol

Well. Still not working. Dash switch, key in the tailgate, and key fob do nothing. The window isn't locked. I pushed up with both my hands to make sure the window is all the way up. Checked the connector by the motor.. every fuse is fine. Adjusted wiper with hand.. And I got no rear wiper or spray as well.

Am I missing something?

FYI - rear wiper will not work if the car thinks the rear window is open. So it's either that or you messed up some connections?

Mine did that as well. I can't recall what I did to make it work again. keep messing with it, it will take off once more. Does your rear hatch open and close normally?

Rear hatch works fine. License plate light I spliced camera into is connected to tailgate button and works fine.

Can the switch go bad? No way right?

Should I just pull the battery for like 30 minutes and cross my fingers?

since nothing related to the window (i.e. wiper, washer, up/down) i'd say you have something not plugged back in or a switch isn't being made (thinking window up or door closed switch). have you checked the fuse in the fuse panel to make sure you didn't pop a fuse when you plugged the motor back up? did you loosen a ground wire or anything when you were installing your camera?

Disconnecting the Rear Tailgate Window

Ok my buddy that also has this generation 4Runner warned me to never try to use the rear window as it will likely fail being 8-10 years old car. Like a fool I tried it one day and sure enough it did not close. bunch of grinding in the back, wouldn't go up all the way or down. So I took off the hatch lid and the mechanism was so rusted, the cables were wrapped around the housing, parts busted off, so i removed the motor assembly and drilled a hole in the mount/frame and screwed it shut permanently. Of course now everything else like the rear defroster and rear wiper don't work. The window switch makes a clicking sound (I guess the relay in the back is being invoked) and after reading a few dozen threads I cant re-calibrate a window that doesn't operate. Any suggestions about resolving this issue?

I'm having the same problem as the op and it showed up while installing a backup camera. Started when I was testing the rear window to make sure the wires weren't interfering. The power tailgate latch did not work, but the window did roll down and then up. I unplugged the battery to reset the ecu, and eventually the power latch started working again, but now the window would not roll down. Nothing with the key, the window switch, or the key fob. I did unplug and plug back in the ecu harness (I think that is what it is) in the tailgate during all of this.

I opened up techstream. Threw a code for rear hatch jam protection sensor (B2221). Tried clearing the code, but not sure that it works. Techstream also identified that the window was open even though it is closed, so I think this is the issue (as long as I am reading techstream right). Tried testing the window in techstream but I couldn't get it to do anything.

Some other info that may or may not be useful. Occasionally, when we roll down the rear window with the key, and accidentally turn the key too far so that it bumps the locks shut, the window switch in the car won't work temporarily. We have to go out and use the key to roll it up. After this, the window switch will work again. We have a key fob but don't use it because the keyring loop is broken.

Any help or suggestions appreciated. Hate losing the rear window function!

Well what do you know, I figured it out... mostly. The switch on the dash still does not function, but the key and the key fob do!

In techstream, I figured out that if you click and HOLD on the arrows to do the test. Once I figured that out I was able to operate the window and then the computer recognized the window in the proper position. After that the key worked in the back lock to roll the window up and down. The key fob also worked to roll the window down.

At this point I think I have a bad switch on the dash. Not entirely sure but at least my window functions. Not how I wanted to spend my morning/early afternoon, but maybe this will help someone out.

I'm so glad I bought the cable and downloaded techstream. I used it to diagnose my vsc, trac, abs lights and it told me the wheel speed sensor. Turned out it was a broken wire.

So when you say hold arrows down are you referring to techstream. My 2006 T4R has exact symptoms. Do I have to have techstream to fix it?
