Backup Camera Mod for Pioneer Head Unit?

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to enable my backup camera to always be on when driving. I have a Pioneer head unit and the backup camera only shows when its in reverse. If I choose the "camera" option from the menu on the unit, the screen just goes black if the car is in another gear other than reverse. Is there any way to override this to show whenever I want?

Been wondering that as well, I have a 8400NEX and switching to camera from the menu results in the same black screen.

if the rca cable have a wire built in, wire that up to either the acc or remote wire, you must undo the wire at the rear by camera, but if that wire provide both power and reverse trigger, just cap the wire off. also make sure you have good ground.

this way youll be able to use the camera as rear view too, use a separate wire to trigger the radio, on the driver side the reverse wire is red yellow, run a wire back to radio reverse trigger input.

There should be an option under settings where you can enable the camera to run at all times instead of just reverse because I have an old Pioneer head unit (older than yours) and it had this capability. Highly doubt it's dependent on how it was installed - it's related to the settings.

I have a 4400 and the installer said “negative” however I don’t know if there is a bypass option.

Wire a switch in parallel with the reverse wire going into the headunit. That allows you to trick the unit into thinking you’re car is in reverse whenever you actuate the switch.
