Don't want to pay expensive shop prices. I probably can do it myself but need more info. I read that I would have to use a "modded" FJ Cruiser kit.. Or can anyone refer me to some people that know what they are doing..

Thanks in Advance!

I can't think of a better place to save a few bucks, than cutting up a vehicle's frame and modifying the suspension mounts.

Well, you guys sure do it different over on the islands...

Generally the 4runners are limited to 3 inches, unless you do a complete overhaul of the suspension with something like a total chaos Long Travel kit which only gives 3-4.5 inches of lift. Or you could do a solid axle swap... which I don't believe anyone has done on the 5th gen yet. SAS would be EXTREMELY intense build with many custom parts, and probably hundreds of hours of custom fabrication. Generally people here use spacers or new coilover combos to achieve 3 inches of lift. Our front suspension is Independent which has many limitation in what we can do.

That Tacoma photo is fascinating. I don't know if I like the deleted front drive shaft or the wheel-to-tire width discrepancy better.

I'm a pretty big fan of the not only the draglink angle, but the shackles that are 10" long am definitely almost vertical. I bet it drives like a dream!:heh:

I know very little about suspension and steering engineering, but it seems with the drag link at such a high angle it would make the truck turn sharply to the passenger side whenever that side of the axle articulates up. Exciting for sure, but maybe that's the purpose of the doubled up steering stabilizer.

In the end it would probably drive better if the entire leaf spring/shock setup was replaced with hard tubing with zero travel and the low tire pressure was used as shock absorbers, kind of like a tractor.

You'd be pretty close to right with that assumption. It won't flex much though with the arch of the springs and poor shackle angles. MASSIVE bump steer and most likely death wobble too. The box has so much strain on it it will rip from the frame if it wasn't reinforced. :pop2:

It's hack as f.....:twitch:

Ha! That would be an interesting Build thread title, turning Tacoma into a tractor. This kind of thing; and any truck lifted beyond 5-6 inches is just insane. I just love seeing all of those f-250s lifted like 2-3 feet with all green painted frame suspension and wheels etc. So ridiculous.

I have not done one.. but there is not much to it... Just buy a 2010+ FJ kit like this one. Should pretty much just work as the two trucks are mostly identical with just a variation in wheelbase... That is where you might need to lengthen something a little (just a rod/arm...)

Fabtech 2010-2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser 6" Lift # K7024

There is a little bit of cutting and welding required but nothing complicated as long as you don't have KDSS. There are very few 5th gens with 6" bracket lifts like this... but they are out there.. Very common on FJs though.

Respectfully, you have no idea what you are talking about. Many 5th Gen 4runners have been lifted 6-10" by using a combination of methods. Search Tonka 4Runner.

Please watch your comments. If you don't like body or big lifts on a 4Runner that's fine. You don't have to post it. Everyone has much different ideas on what looks good.

I saw a Chevrolet truck the other day set up like that, but they had dropped the front differential so that it was between the front wheels, leaving only about 10-12" of ground clearance, and there was another 12" of clearance above the 38" tires to the top of the wheel well. It looked like 24" chrome wheels as well.

Essentially it looked like someone tried to build the most unusable truck possible.

Understood, My apologies for going beyond the limits for opinions and the sort. Quite new to forums, just trying to give what I believe to be meaningful input although some may not perceive it as such. Once again, I apologize.

IMG_0402.JPG this is my co-workers 5th gen with a 8inch lift they used a fabtech lift but they charged him 2 arms and 2 legs lol... I don't wanna spend money on something I can do myself

It looks as if Fabtech has is the only one out there making the extreme drop brackets. If you put in your three inch, you bolt on another lift without issue. Unless they require cutting welding (I have no idea, never went into that world of lift kits) you'll be fine. Order and bolt it on.

Sorry, the mod statement was not directed at you. I forgot the word "everyone" lol. Everyone is free to voice their opinion but, like colors or seat comfort, what looks good is subjective and if you don't like it move on. He didn't ask for opinion, he asked what parts were needed.

Try BDS
I've installed there 6 inch kits on plenty tacomas
They are top notch great products.
You also have bulletproof, and FTS/full throttle suspension.
Buuuut I can't say much for the quality in those lifts.
