Baja ladder install fitment issues - help

Hey guys,

I ordered a baja ladder, but can't seem to get the ladder part to come far enough down to meet the bracket at the bottom. It's almost like the ladder itself is about a half inch too short. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas on a solution?

Read instructions

Did you read through the instructions? Baja sends you a longer bolt to use to pull the ladder down enough to fit the 2 intended bolts to use for the ladder. It's all clearly stated in their instructions. Installed my with no problems about a month ago.
 
Noob Ladder Question

Hey guys noob ladder question: Does it raise with the tailgate (like a hinge on top)...or are you restricted to window access?

Check out this video. It answers both questions presented here. Very well done install video. When I installed mine i got it all set up but not clamped at the bottom and then stood on it to get it down below that last curve. Then I could easily get the bolts in. Hope this helps!

Agreed^^^ Had to put some down force to get that last little bit.

It's a great ladder. I love the lines so much more than the Gobi ladder. It's held up well with no issues.

hey guys - thanks for the replies! Having someone stand on it while I bolted it down helped close that huge gap.


That part wasn't in the instructions ;)
 
What prevents the metal to metal contact points from rusting the tailgate? I'd think putting weight on the ladder would rub the top portion on the door, eventually rubbing off the clear coat and paint. A little piece of foam will become compressed over time and not prevent long term protection.

I'm worried about that too. Time will tell. I'm a little unimpressed with the fitment in all honesty. Having to jump on the thing to make it fit means it doesn't fit lol

Indeed this isn't in the instructions, but that's why they send you the long bolt and the instruction to follow. Easy one man job when able to understand documented methods per BajaRack

Long bolt alone won't pull those pieces together, at least on the specimen of ladder I received in the mail.

I'm wondering how the Baja ladders are holding up out there. It looks like the best option but I'm wondering how the foam pads are holding up, or if there are any issues with it causing any sort of damage to the hatch?

No issues yet....but I really don't climb on it much. A little rust at the bottom that I plan on spraying with rustolium but nothing that concerns me.

It looks awesome!

My ladder is holding up well! I use mine pretty regularly for loading camping gear and jerry cans over this past month, but do have some cosmetic wear on the top of the ladder where it meets the back hatch. From what I can tell it rubs with the body when I open the back hatch, and has caused the powder coating to rub off. Ill take a photo later to show this. Very minor, and the ladder has been holding up flawlessly since installation in early July. Foam pads and all.

Here is my rub. Hard to get a good angle. There is a minuscule rub on the driver side too, not chipping, but there which tells me that the ladder is in the correct place as I thought it may just have shifted to the right.

I will be taking it off this weekend and filing down the bent edges where it is scraping and then touching up with rattlecan bedliner... as for the truck, I don't think I need to spend the high dollar for color match when it is d@mn near impossible to see it anyway so I will be touching up with Rustolium grey off a paintbrush.

Thanks for asking about this as I probably would have missed it for a while too long. The whole truck was covered with mud/sand after this weekend and the photo is from this morning after its first bath haha but at least I caught it now!

That's some good real world feedback. Thank you for posting the pic. Shaving the corners down looks like a good fix. It might be worth passing on to the vendor, not sure if they are on here.
 
debating gobi or the baja. this seems like a much better buy.

would you current owners go this route again or go gobi?
