balance after swapping tires & rims?

4,700k miles. I recently swapped the stock Dunlop's with Cooper AT3's. A month later I swapped the stock rims with Toyota TRD rims. My local Farm & Fleet did all of the work. When I drive at highway speeds I noticed a little more vibration than normal on the steering wheel. This happened after the rims were swapped. It was fine when the new tires were added. Does it need to get re-balanced? I'm thinking its because the TRD rims are lighter and the weights were not added correctly.

Might have thrown a weight off. I've had them fly off and hit the wheel well leaving the tire dealer. I'd take it back to them to rebalance and they should for no charge if it's been very recent.

I'd request a RoadForce Balance and Computer Ride Matching from a capable shop. I've never had a better ride from 'large' tires than from demanding RoadForce balancing and Computer Ride Matching. I would not settle for any less.

Not all shops are equipped to do it (need special balancing machines) - so find a shop that has the goods and stick with them IMO...

When I changed our the tires it was fine. But when I swapped the stock rims with the TRD's that's when the steering wheel vibration started. Thanks. I might have to go to a dealer.

The combo of RoadForce balancing and Computer Ride Matching will actually match the high spot of the tire to the low spot of the rim to end up with a more-true outer circumference. Then the superior balance procedure you get is second to none (a better balance procedure on a "more true" rim/tire combo). I don't believe any Toyota dealership offers this service as they generally don't have the special equipment (Hunter GSP9700 or similar).

I had to abandon the Discount Tire down the road from my house (been a patron for like 20 years!) because they didn't have one - Now I go to another Discount Tire further away that has one and have never been happier with how my tires ride...

Haweka Flange Plate Adapter

Someone correct me but I believe the key to balancing stock Toy wheels is this adapter , it's how my guy FINALLY got mine right . The Road force doesn't hurt but from what I was told this is the key . :thumb3:

I changed out the stock rims to the TRD's.

All good tire & balance shops should have one ! I went round & round with my guy to buy one , then got him to get one made all the dif in getting rid of that lil shimmy at 55 mph .

Oddly enough, I put the AT3's on my 14 SR5 Premium along with Outlaw wheels. Immediately notice a shimmy at 60-70 mph. Had the tires balanced and road forced at Discount Tire 4 times. They never could get rid of the shimmy. Put the stock wheels and tires on and have never had a problem again.

Until your post I thought the problem had been the Cooper Tires.. Let us know what happens.

I had the AT3's put on 3 weeks before the TRD rims were put on. Problem came in after the rims were put on.
