Ball bearing put hole in transmission

This is on a manual trans 1990 4runner sr5 4 wheel drive with a v6 and manual trans . It looks like the bearing hurled out of place so hard it put a hole in the bottom of the trans . Any idea where this bearing came from unless the trans got a hole from a rock and someone put the bearing in there to slow the leak but this seems highly unlikely.

The top of the photos is the rear of the trans.

i bought the truck then crawled under it to check the trans fluid and say a wet spot and big blob of jb weld so i removed the jb weld and that is what was under it.

That is jacked up. Does the transmission work?

Bummer looks like it was in there a very long time to ware a hole like that

Yeah, the tranny works perfectly which is why I think it's possible that someone might have put it in there thru the oil fill hole to slow the leak down.

Can you ask the prior owner if he knows what happened?

First thing I'd do is pull the drain plug and see what besides gear oil comes out. I really can't imagine how that happened.

Unfortunately no.

I patched it today so I will pull the plug tomorrow but since all the oil already came out the hole, I doubt I will see anything unusual.
