Baptism by fire

Baptism by fire. my oldest son (15 1/2) got his driving permit today, sohe drove our new (to us) 2010 4Runner around South Hill in Puyallup for an hour of driving on a 8- lane down to
4-lane-down to 2- lane congested road with LOTS of traffic.

He did really well, however I am not sure how to remove my fingernails from the passenger side door handle. Anyone had experience with that?


Seriously though, the traffic he drove in today is only second to Seattle downtown traffic. :thumb3:

I've started off with the "relax, 10 second rule" (try to predict what traffic will do 10 seconds ahead of your position) and he did surprising well.

He drove the back wheel over a curve at the BOA on 277th, but in a tight parking lot like that, happens to the best of us.

He's driven the FJ Cruiser we owned off road many times. When he looked at me after driving over the curb, I just shrugged and said 'You don't need to put it in 4 Wheel Low to do that" and he laughed.

I remember FINALLY being able to drive legally. One of the best things ever.

Kudos. But that means you may be seeing the 4Runner less now.

For the scratches you can try some like Meguiar's Scratch-X. It's worked well for me in those areas.

In North Dakota its 14 for your permit and 14 and a half to drive alone..

My son turned 14 in Jun and I refuse to let him get his permit yet. Way to young I think

Lineman, growing up in Minn, the law was also 14, but they called it a Farmer's permit. One could be 14, drive 20 miles from home, during daylight hours, without an adult. When I was 14, I didn't think it was too young.

ND - learner's permit 14. License 14.5. Insane. No way. I'm making him wait till at least 15 to even get the learner's.
