basic setup for 04

Hey fellas, I recently purchased a 2004 4x4 4runner I'm wondering what kind of suspension/lift, wheels and tires you all would recommend. My runner is used for DD and in the snow when I go snowboarding. I would like to have the ability to off-road as well. Basicaly a truck that will get me most anywhere i need to go.

Do a search as this has been discussed thoroughly already. Lifts consists of the cheaper spacer technology or if you want to spend some cash go with the coilover setup.

BFG AT KO, REVOs, Nitto Terra Grapplers are the tires everyone is talking about on the forums...

lifting and adding tires can get very expensive depending on the configuration you want. I've seen some good combos go for around $2000-2500 for some good set of tires and lift. Cheaper combos can still cost you $1000-1500.

It's an expensive mod to do together so you'll want to budget it accordingly. Make sure you do the research as you don't want to invest in one thing and later realize that you wanted something else and waste more $$. Do it right the first time - this could mean that you will spend more than you really can afford so watch out.

I will state that the stock 4runner will handle great so you should start from there. Venture out and figure out what you need prior to making the big move and doing the mods. Mods are great but appreciating the stock beast is always good to know. This way you know your limitation and can become a better driver on the trails. Once you're aware of your limitation, you will know exactly what modifications are vital and what is not.

Kind of made my rig into what you are describing. Out of town so can't post a pix, but there are some on the site if you dig. I wanted a rig that looked good and was better off road - not interested in the running the Ruibicon at record time but did not like how low it was stock. 1st mod was tint (a must in FL) then I put a 300 buck spacer 3 in lift on from Revteck (no heavy wheeling just wanted it to look like a truck not a wagon) then yanked of those stupid running boards (free 2 inch lift) Bigger tires (stock's are more stupid than the RB's) Added some huge Lightforce light to the bumper (just bolted them down). Added some air bags to help haul the KTM. Cut out the muffler and rez and added a flowmaster.

Now have a distictive Runner that wheels great and hauls the bike like a champ.
