Hey there. I just bought a 90 4runner SR5 3.0, Manual with 4wd...
It's basically my family car, I just want to do things to make this beauty run right and get good gas mileage ( Good.. I know I wont get great, do to age and the size of motor and so on, so I'm not looking for a miracle haha) Just somethings to help out with when I turn the key, I know it will start everytime and get me to where I need to go safely. Any ideas or suggestions?

Well i have heard that after every time you fill the tank put some PURE ACETONE in the tank with your gas. your mileage will increase about 25-50% you put small amount.. here's the video the beginning is all logical but the acetone part i wouldnt really ever think of.

Pure acetone? I wouldn't have thought of that...have you tried it? I've used rubbing alcohol in the tank before in the place of fuel injector cleaner...but only every blue moon since it sounded harsh to me...I would love to hear if the acetone thing works.

the video the guy tried it he gets 50% more so yea haha.

I'll try it out, I have a beater car I'll Junk later this year, 2oz of pure acetone in 10gallons of fuel. I'll post when I do this in a couple of months and now for sure.

Acetone will not sigifigantly if at all improve gas mileage. I should be a cleaner burning exhaust though.

Why in the world would acetone increase gas mileage? If it is it will make it worse and make your engine knock by making the gas burn quicker in the chambers before the piston reaches full extension.

Hey everyone.... I feel this post got out of hand with the acetone thing. I'm deff NOT going to try that as of right now. But what I am interested in is what my origional post was... just minor things to do to ensure a good start, and run everytime...

You may want to try some Sea Foam, it is safe when used as directed and is capable of increasing gas mileage, cleaning dirty injectors, stabilizing fuel, drying out moisture etc....
In addition to Sea Foam a good tune up (plugs, wires, distributor cap/rotor) would be in order if you are unsure of when the last time that was replaced.

Thank you. I was getting tired of this whole acetone thing to be honest. Any certain brands... mm of the wires, I'm trying to find the gap for my plugs, also, what's a good brand of plugs for this thing?

Most people including myself prefer NGK for plugs, I see lots of people running Bosch wires, but since they make such crappy spark plugs I don't trust them with the wires either.
