I might just get this first so I can attach bikes on top of the basket just in time for summer.. that will be sweet... anyone got experience with these attachments?

I too am in the market to purchase one or the other. But as it is now, the links to the pics appear to be broken. I had another person access this link from their system in another company and she was not able to see it either. Can this be corrected so I too can get the visual?

Okay this is getting annoying. I have having a conversation with a person online from the RackAttack website and they are telling me the following.

The factory roof side bars can ONLY hold 100lbs. The after market bars can hold up to 150lbs. But regardless, if you put the after market on the stock, the weight limit is still 100 lbs.

Next, that is BEFORE you even put on the basket.

So there is NO gain for getting the bars.

To mount the basket I need MightyMounts, and there is no security with any of this so I need to buy that too. But then later he admits to being wrong and says we do not need Mightymounts

This is becoming more complicated than I thought.

Iman - - I don't blame you for being annoyed ... it doesn't help at all when the person selling the product has no real idea of its applications, or its weight issues ... and when they then also won't go find the answer, but just guess and tell you the wrong thing!!

I am certain that the factory bars are rated at 120lbs. ... the rack itself (even mine - the LoadWarrior with the extension) is not too too heavy either - as I only weigh 120lbs and was able to install it myself, and lift it to the top of my truck with no help. I agree that it is important to get something that will help keep it safe from getting stolen or tampered with, but as far as extra mounts and bars etc. etc., I would recommend that you just put the rack on the factory setup, and if later down the road you feel like you are going to need more support and a higher weight rating, you can always buy the extra mounts or crossbars later.

The Thule Playpen has locking shrouds to cover where the basket attaches to the rack crossbars and provide some antitheft protection.

I have to agree with one thing that the rackattack guy said for it makes a lot of sense. Whether the stock roof rack holds 120 or 100lbs, the point about putting after market bars on the side stock bars will not increase the weight limit, because the stock bars still have to hold the weight that the after market bars would hold.

I don't think I would want any more than 125#'s on my roof just for the fact of creating too high of a center of gravity.

The thing is though, whether it's 120lbs or 10lbs, you cannot exceed the compacity of the stock roof rack.

The stock bars could probably handle more than the weight limit prescribed (especially with better crossbars). I think the weight limit has more to do with safety and rollover rather that what the rack can actually support.

But if you have the "side bars" of the "stock bars" that for arguments sake can "only" hold 60lbs, then you take after market bars that attached to the side bars and they alone weigh 5lbs each (and there is two of them), then you put on an object that way 60lbs: that is a total of 70lbs which is 10lbs over it's limit. Hell we can go heavier if you want, but the point being, since the after market attaches to the stock side bars, if the side bars have a certain weight limit, I do not see how you can go above that weight limit regardless of what that weight limit is.

Maybe the weight limit is for the factory crossbars. You can buy Yakima lowridres that mount to the siderails, allowing you to use yakima crossbars. The factory crossbars seem to be the flimsiest part of the rack. Side rails feel pretty solid.

mswscco is right -- the weight limit is for the factory crossbars. if you replace those with some yakima crossbars, you will indeed be able to put more weight up there. nonetheless - you also don't want to carry too too much weight up there because you don't want the center of gravity to be too high.

the current weight limit is for the factory crossbars -- replace those and you can get a great deal more weight up there.

Crossbar Removal 2005

Does anyone know how to remove the crossbars on a 2005. I put a Thule rack on the rails but I don't 4 bars going across the top. There are some star screws under the bars and I undid those. I hoped that the bars would slide to one side and then out. That didn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
