Bass Speakers suddenly stopped working

Bass speakers suddenly dropped out, leaving only the smaller upper door speakers functioning. Has anyone experienced a similar issue?

Mine came with inop sub. I'm working the problem right now. The panel that covers the sub is plastic welded to the larger panel so the whole thing must come out. A lot of disassembly needed. I took the opportunity to deep clean.

I cut the plastic welds so the sub panel is removable.

I got it to work briefly with a new Pioneer sub. When I tried to permanently mount the sub, it crapped out.

Assuming you have the sub in the rear, over time the foam surround deteriorates. I tried gluing mine back in place but I bet it's off again. If you don't mind breaking some plastic back there, you can pull that smaller piece SocalSam shows in his picture and it will clip back in just not as strong as it was as the internal welded clips will break. Worth the time savings to me. Many seem to put a Pioneer sub (8"?) in there.

Sorry, should have included that I don't the JVC sub, only the basic radio/cd player, two speakers on each front door and a factory aux input in the console.

I read somewhere that if one of the speaker voice coils in the rear channel opens, there is no sound. Pull drivers and check for resistance or continuity.
