Battery choices/options for reliability and safety?

I run a Odyssey in mine now. I had previously gone with optimas before (red and yellow top) but after hearing how the quality had gone down I made the switch. We used to sell them at Costco but there was a contract issue and no longer carry them. Makes me wonder if it was a quality issue as I was seeing a BUNCH of them being returned in the last year of selling them. Unfortunately, I heard of the Sears platinum discussion AFTER I had already purchased my current battery. I think my next battery will probably be the Sears platinum, that is if I can ever make this current battery die. It is a BEAST!!!

Quite a bit more expensive. What model have you used?

Sorry didn't see this till now but the model # was B2015c or B1520c, I can't remember the sequence.

I've always had good luck with Die Hard and Interstate batteries. The Optima batteries are expensive and overrated IMO.
Also my rule of thumb is to change your battery every 5 years no longer.

Question for you guys running the platinum die hards: Did you have a problem with the battery cables not reaching the terminals? I heard that the platinum die hards do not have a reversed terminal configuration, like we need for our 4Runners. Although the Odyssey batteries do have a reversed terminal version.

Did you have to extend your battery cables to fit the non-reversed version?

I modified (lengthened) my battery cables to fit the yellow top Optima, shortly after buying my 4Runner new. The modified cables worked great for the group 34 Diehard Platinum.

I do think if your battery cables are stock, they would have to be modified to run the group 34 battery.

If you don't want to have to do that, Sears does sell a group 35 Diehard Platinum that will fit with no cable modifications. Although it has lower cranking amps and reserve capacity than the group 34.

They also sell a group 65 battery that I seriously considered. But it would've required more mods to mount it properly, and it was even heavier than the group 34. So I compromised and went with the group 34.

Could you describe/show how you modified the cables to lengthen them?
