I would go with the diehard platinum it's a better battery. Optima batteries quality have gone way down there is a ton of info on the net about it.

Replace Stock Battery with Diehard

I replaced my stock battery (Panasonic) with a Diehard M31 Plantinum Marine battery at Sears.

If you decide to choose this type M31, you will need to buy at least one set of Remy Terminals (recommend you to buy 2 sets, in case it does not screw in well, you will have one more set to try) in order to have Plug and Play replacement. There is NO modification in extending the cable required.

You may also need to consider if you want to have a battery case (if you want to have a separate mount). I just asked the Sears mechanic guys to take out the old plastic tray and install this AGM battery in the same slot. It fits perfectly.

Sears offer FREE battery installation services (a coupon from their website).

That is simply freakin' awesome.....no need to make it harder than it needs to be or spend a ridiculous $100 plus for a battery tray/cage!

I've been using Sears for years to install my batteries. As long as you buy the battery from them they install it for free no coupon needed.

Battery replacement

I thought this thread might be about installing a 2nd, back-up battery. That might be a good option now for running that fridge or portable compressor.

If you see me in a Sears store ever again, especially the automotive section, call the police. I've been kidnapped.

And Sears is one of the most likely retailers to go under, according to all the business news I've read. :violin:

What makes you thin the battery is on it's way out? Did you get it tested?

I have added so much more draw on it with lights and GPS etc. I cant even have the radio on for more then 10mins before it dies. and moving to CO the winter mouths will be even harder here.

The cage isn't required for the Group 31, but I was able to twist the 31M under the OEM tie-down before I got the cage. May not be an issue ever, but I didn't want to find that out the hard way while on vacation on a trail somewhere.

I also had a D35 platinum ready to go in the primary location before I found a good deal on the 31M. The D35 will now go into the Aux location.

Okki

I don't get it, I have a group 34/78 in my 4 runner, it came out of my last vehicle. I also have an ARB fridge that I run in the back on road trips.

I left it on in the vehicle for 2 days straight, no starting the vehicle, no charging the battery, just constantly running the fridge at 30ºF. 2 days later, it started up without any hesitation. No sluggish starter, no dimming interior lights, nothing, just started up like normal.

I guess, if you have a grand to spend on doing a dual battery setup, more power to ya, but as far as I can tell, with an ARB fridge running all the time, unless you're gonna park somewhere and leave the vehicle with the fridge running for more than 24 hours (and setting it to 0ºF) without starting it up to charge it back up, its sort of a waste of money. Everything else you run, like a compressor or lots of lighting, can easily be done while running the engine, I know when I fill my 35's on my truck I keep the engine running the whole time while I do just to give the ViAir compressor plenty of juice to run for 30+minutes at a time.

Of course, this is all moot if you're using an electric cooler, as those will kill your battery overnight, since they run constantly and never shut off!

My batt is not doing so great either. It has run down a few times and is getting old.

Are these die hard group 31 a $300+ batt?

Hi jam,

I installed this AGM drycell (900-CCA) on Thurs. Much like yourself, the reason was because of the oem battery's age; '2012 limited'. The stock one was a small Panasonic with 530-CCA; my wife's camery came with a 610-CCA Brand xyz. I have a substantial amount of electrical accessories invested here so... there's no excuse for what Toyota slapped under my hood!

"Odyssey EXTREME" '35-PC1400' size/group 24F

Where did you get 530CCA from?

The Factory battery is a Panasonic JIS-105D31L if I remember right, which is about 710cca...

(We basically used that same battery for almost all the SUVs/Trucks if I recall correctly.)
