Bearings are a'whining!

I have a local NAPA who will press bearings in for $10 each.

Yeah but there is the couple of hours removing and installing the differential.

One of my fellow T4R buddies here in Atlanta told me about a Toyota shop that I'm gonna try out on Monday called Atlanta Custom Creations. I'll see if they have any input on the whining rear end...just drove to Jacksonville and back and it just about drove me nuts!

EDIT: Scottdale? Looks like Decatur to me...not your typical resort town to be sure!

Sweet, mine is whining too, has since I purchased it. now it has 212K on it. I need to look and see, but dont have high hopes of narrowing it down. it almost sounds like tire whine, but its not as I have purchased new tires, and now its changing pitch a little when you hit the gas, or let off the gas. I just wondered if it was your rear end after all that was giving you fits.

Thats exactly what mine does...whines when I'm giving it gas. Let me know if you find the source of the noise...nobody I've checked with can identify it.

Sounds like my issue... it's a pinion bearing that's going bad is what I was told.... was told it could last a while before it needs immediate attention.... need to look around and see how difficult an operation it is for a shade tree mechanic like me to fix or pay the $600 the import shop quoted me... I've been hauling a 3500 lb boat a few times this summer and that seems to have exasperated the issue...

whining noise on acceleration between 30mph to 70 mph

that problem was fixed after a bearing was replaced in the rear diff. About 4-5 months ago, i had the same mechanic replace the pinion seal - it'd taken me a while to realize rear diff gear lube was leaking.

for the last 2-3 months, i've been hearing and frustrated at the whining noise on acceleration, most noticeable at speeds between 30mph to 70mph (noise could still be there but drown at higher speed). As soon as i take the foot off gas, the noise is gone. One difference of this noise from before the bearing fix (the other flying saucer thread) is, the old noise was still there while coasting to a stop at 30-20 mph.

i hate to take it back to the mechanic as it's out of my way and he always complains i didn't bring it back for inspection 500 miles after his work (for me that's only a week's commute to work).

i've never had zerk grease service done. not sure if that'd make any difference.

it's about time it needs new set of tires and rotor (front). toying with the idea to get another car instead and start over ...
