is there anything i can do to stop it becaue i just went down to see if its still there and the car still wont shift outta park so i have to wiggle the shifter a little with little muscle and it came right out

Also follow what someone else mentioned earlier. If you have a brake light out it will cause the same problem. Had it happen on another car of mine and was happy it was a simple fix. For some reason not only is there a brake pressure(micro switch) switch at the pedal that can be out of adjustment telling your transmission you have the pedal depressed a blown light will cause that same issue.
Also the beating the sh@t out of your car to "fix" it reminds me of the Russian astronaut in Armegedon. Russian space ship American space ship all parts made in China..LOL

Cmon now, it's not like this guy is the only person to treat their 4Runner in a "forceful" manner, am I right? Some of us offroad our trucks, drive them in extremely cold temperatures, tow boats/atv's, etc. And for what it's worth, everyone's been frustrated at one point or another with their car and they react "accordingly". Now I'm not saying that slamming the gear lever around is the best thing to do, but if it breaks, it breaks, right? It would be a lesson learned, and it'll probably keep him from repeating the process in the future. I'm really not a fan of people who get preachy on forums. Constructive criticism is great, but it gets annoying when people feel they can pick on other members here just based on what they post in a forum topic. Soap box off.

yeah i guess i was wrong. i apologize but its all good now i took the car to a famliy friend who owns a body shop he told me the fuse and two bulbs blown and he replaced then for free.:beer:

You should review your owner's manual for helpful info like the operation of the shift lock override. It was already described by a few others in this thread so I won't get repetitive. And I agree with Kelly that we have all abused our rides in 1 way or another. On my old 2nd gen runner I had the fuel door get frozen shut so the release latch didn't do anything. I ended up just ripping off the entire fuel door and the attendant gave me a look like I was nuts (yeah, we don't pump our own fuel in Jersey, it's illegal)
