Bent Running Board

I have a 06 Limited 4runner and recently let my brother borrow her and he hit something so now the passenger side running board is bent in the back. the light still works, its just bent down and back.

do you guys think its possible to bend it back to the correct position or should i get a replacement set of brackets for the running board?

any suggestions would help.

The brackets are strong. You can assess each of the three by removing 4 bolts per - two 12mm and two 10mm.

With an arbor or hydraulic hand press and the proper blocks you might be able bend back into shape but unless you have good tools it is doubtful.

Make sure also the underlying aluminum frame of the running board isn't bent.

Well, it's a good time to upgrade to rock sliders! This won't happen again with rock sliders. Since you're in NY, then i assume that your 4runner is 4WD...more reason to make it look right with rock sliders!

The cost of getting new running boards (for one side) is probably half already of getting sliders.

With the right tools, bending the bracket and aluminum sub frame should be easy. It's the plastic rubbermaid moulding that might be more difficult. If the collision caused any creasing or warp on the plastic it may be hard to get it back to its original shape.

Your brother should not be allowed within thirty feet of your truck from now on.

The brackets are pretty weak. Sliders are way better

Same thing happened to me while out 4x4'n. Tried to crawl over a couple rocks too big, and darn I bent two brackets on passenger side. Molding was okay, though, just the way I hit it.

I tried to straighten the brackets out, but no way! I do not agree with another poster here that they are "weak". Quite the opposite, they are *very strong*. No amount of force in my vice would bend them back.

I ended up getting replacements from the stealership at $46 apiece.
