Everything there is priced ridiculously high and the 'sales' people are just your plain average pushy 'know nothings' that know less than the people they are trying to sell to.

For me, i mainly shop at BB whenever there is big sales, such as Black Friday. Also, Dealsea.com helps me out by pointing out big sales at BB. When they have BIG sales, then it is worth it because they do beat Amazon, Walmart, etc.. Otherwise, BB is overpriced.

Fry's is probably one of the few things I miss from the Bay Area, hands down beats Best Buy most every time (can't even get solder from Best Buy! Some electronics store...)

We don't have a frys in tucson(only phx I think) but there is a awesome mom/pop shop that comes close to digikey, it's great! Elliot's Electronics, some of it's surplus but if you dig you can find gems

Every time I've been in frys their customer service has been horrible(only shelf stickers, no knowledge of what they were stocking)

Forgot to mention above, but did you know that BB will price-match Amazon as long as it is sold by Amazon, not 3rd party?? I have Amazon Prime, but sometimes i get price-match bc i hate waiting for 2 days! But you do have to pay local taxes with the price match.

I live a mile away from their World headquarters and the flagship #1 store and haven't been in that store for 3 years. I'll drive to the only microcenter in MN for computer parts (or online too) and for video games I get them used from a couple small stores cuz i don't care if they are used. Best Buy's prices are just too high for my cheap budget. I especially hate their customer service

Mine recently moved to a larger store, but their shelves are bare and I usually leave empty handed. More than once they've told me to check online for products.

WTF? Why even bother going into the store then? And if I have to go online, I can usually find it cheaper. Odd marketing strategy.

Last year about this time I was returning something to BB along with a lot of other folks. One guy wanted to exchange a $7.99 alarm clock and had the replacement in hand along with receipt. He was told he was in the wrong return line and to use a different one after finally reaching the the register. He tried to reason with the employee who called the manager who continued by arguing with the customer. The customer finally had his fill, handed the defective return to the manager along with his receipt and said "I'm exchanging this for the one you're holding" as he held it high enough for everyone to see it. Then he started to the door as the crowd cheered him on and the manager threatened him with arrest for stealing. The security guy opened the door for the "thief" and the crowd applauded while the manager fumed. Quite funny when it happened!

The only reason they have security guys is because no one can justify spending money there. Even with a gift card I feel guilty because it's all so overpriced. I feel like the moral high ground is just to steal shit.

I've used BB a few times with black Friday deals, but other than that, no.

Microcenter is by far better. Better selection, prices, knowledge, shipping, will call, etc.
I also love NewEgg.

Really? I bought a keyboard from them a few years back and their price was on par with Amazon, Amazon beat them by I think $5 at the time.

I don't know about them having sales, but they've typically had pretty competitive prices for bits and ends and components. Never tried buying things like TVs or anything from them. Usually just computer components or electronic items, plus they at least carry solder unlike BB.

Best buy's website and store routinely has movies and games cheaper than Amazon, often 25% to 30% even.

Years ago Amazon would auto price match the brick and mortar stores, now they only seem to do it for the higher end electronics.

The last thing I bought from Best Buy was an Apple Airport Extreme. You usually cant find those on sale and i was being impatient after another new router failed.

Other than that i occasionally price shop them for TVs. I dont trust shippers to be gentle with those so I always pick up in store.

I could never get away with this. I had to return an item once at BB. Customer service would not accept return, said item was not eligible despite it not being a sale item, within time frame and I had receipt. Manager hassled me. I got fed up with him, made him give me his DM's phone number. As I turned and walked away I heard him tell his employee not to worry I would not be back. Within an hour I had the DM personally on the phone, got me store credit at another location and when I got there the Manager was expecting me and was Very accomodating. I even got free merchandise. Even tho I'm a young guy I still like to shop at brick and mortars, unless there is just a REALLY good deal online. I've had bad experiences in store and online but I always seem to prefer shopping in person.

Maybe not at all chains, but most will let you. Especially if you're inconspicuous about it and don't just demand a straight swap. Maybe go to BB and grab somethings that's not COMPLETELY overpriced (cheap $5 headphones for example, something that you'll actually use), and the Amazon gift card, then pay for it with your BB gift card and the rest with your own money. Makes it not so obvious and you're less likely to run across irritating employees with a need for compensation.


I will say good thing about BB's store brands though (Rocketfish, Dynex, Insignia).
If you can find things on sale and don't need the absolute latest and greatest, these are pretty good.
Dynex and Insignia are primarily made by Samsung and Sony, IMO the two best manufacturers. Never had a single problem with either company's products.
Not sure who makes Rocketfish, but their headphones are good.
I have 2 TVs from BB that are both 7 years old, Dynex and Indignia, and still work perfectly. Great deal at the time too; half the price of name brand TVs with equal specs.
The remotes are interchangeable too

Deals are few and far between though.

I've never tried to price match at BB, but my brother in law actually haggles prices at Fry's.
He's also 'saved' a few poor unsuspecting people being lied to by sales people. It's pretty funny to watch. He's in the aisle looking at something and overhears them talking and just swoops in.

I have an insignia in one of my rooms, my mom bought a 55inch Insignia 6 years ago at the same time i bought my samsung and its still running strong. I have a buddy who has a Dynex that lives in his garage and is always on. Its at least 6 years old too.

Not BB But I recently bought a $125 Roku TV by TLC from Wal-Mart for my bedroom. For a 32 Inch bedroom TV it is probably the best TV buy i have made in a while
