Best mileage I've ever gotten from her since I bought her in 08.

I just had a check valve replaced by the dealership so that I can pass emissions this month to get new tags.

Please excuse my ghetto scanguage mount...the purple rubber-bands were all we had at work...eep:

Can't wait to see what some new plugs and cleaning the MAF will do.

I'm a little excited, I've been getting 16 to 17 on average for 6 years...

My ultra guage says 19.7 or 20.2. I calculated 5 fill ups now i get 18.6ish. I did get 21-22 when I had my 265/65/16 tires.

Just top off and registered 15mpg, on equal mix of city/highway mileage.

Not bad considering the s/c and my occasional slamming of the GO pedal with reckless abandonment to the floor board. :thumb3:

check valves allow travel through only one directional opening. not both.

My iPhone OBD app tells me I'm getting 23-25 mpg fwy. I'm lucky to get 19-20.

Not to say it's not good news but don't be disappointed if the math comes out lower.

Either the OBD is inaccurate on 4R's or it really sucks the fuel at idle and surface street mileage.

No it's good!

I surmise it's an instantaneous mileage as opposed to average mileage. If you went from 18 to over 20 in the same circumstance that is a cause for joy! :banana:

Any reasoning why this causes better mileage? Writeups on changing a check valve?

My money is on this being a pcv valve. It is by function a check valve, but it comes with a fancier name...

am i just dense? or is there nothing labeled clearly in that diagram? Check valve and that shape don't ring any bells in my brain..... i'd blindly buy that piece just to attempt to regain SOME of my fuel economy.... :doh:

NOOOOOOO! It's not any kind of wearable part. I had a leak in my evap system, which was keeping the fuel system from pressurizing. I've been chasing the 440, 446 and 442 codes for years. I replaced the charcoal canister about 2 or 3 years ago, then the VSV valve and it still threw codes. Had the dealership diagnose it since I wasn't getting anywhere and they found the leak in the check valve (they called it the ORV valve) $590 later (labor for dropping the tank) I passed emissions yesterday and reported this on the drive home from the emissions station:

I've been able to get 21+ on some state highways going 55-65mph.

I have a leak in the same spot but the lip holding that valve on my tank rusted out causing the leak. I epoxied it to pass emissions but 3 months later its leaking again. I finally found a new tank, just waiting for the temps outside to get a little warmer to do the swap. I hope I can report some MPG gains. I'll report back after I get er done.

My 4 cylinder gets me 19.9 to 20.4 with combined driving. We don't get much opportunity to check highway mileage round these parts. But I can't see bumping that much more than 1 or 1.4 miles per gallon. What would make yours get such good mileage?
