Best Place To Run 0 Gauge Wire Through Firewall?

Looking to run 0 gauge through the firewall for a stereo system, fridge, accessories, etc.

I want to drill a hole and use a grommet like this: Amazon.com: Stinger PG34 1/0 AWG Firewall Bushing: Car Electronics

Has anyone done this before? Any ideas on the best location to drill the hole?

I have a manual trans, so that could affect the places to go through.

I drilled a hole for 8G and a grommet right next to the factory bulkhead pass through on the driver's side. Maybe an inch or so toward the booster. I haven't looked at a manual trans to see if there is a clutch cylinder there, I had to move some parts to get in there but it worked out very well.

0 gauge is a pita to run though the firewall, especially on a manual since the clutch M/C is in the spot where you'd be best off doing it, where do you want the wire to end up at?

Holy cow I need new glasses, I read 8, not 0. For that you need to rent a gas powered compressor and a jack hammer, go down to the navy surplus and buy 10 lbs. of dynamite. Make sure you got enough Oxygen in the torch, and call your buddies from the shipyard. Don't forget to video tape the whole thing!

Are you sure you want to bring it so high through the firewall?
What is the destination?
The floor in front of the passenger seat, level with the bottom of the carpet, or the floor behind the driver's seat are two alternatives.

Would it be a bad idea to run it under the body (perhaps along the frame rail) to the access port to the fuel pump under the back seat?

I'd hate to make that big of a hole in my firewall...

I ran 0 through the firewall, all the way back to the trunk at first, and then to just under the driver's seat. It was more of a PITA to get the door trim flush with the wire ran underneath, rather than getting thru the firewall. I didn't use any grommet.

I can go snap some pics if you think it'd be helpful, but I have an auto.

There is a grommet in the floor in the back next to the hump. If you plan on putting your amps back there then why not run it along the frame and then come up back there? I ran mine back there in to my rear storage box.

I had the same issue. I needed to run two 00 gage welding cables into the cab for my 2000 watt inverter. These wires are huge - like over 3/4" diameter. I ended up running them under the truck and up through the floor, but I had to make a custom part to do it.

The inverter will be located under the driver’s seat, but the power cables are too large to run through the firewall and hide under the carpet. So I’ll be running the power cables from the battery down under the truck, and up through the floor of the truck. I needed something to protect the power cables as they came through the floor, and also seal around the cables so no water could enter the truck. So I came up with this:

Basically a plate with 2 tubes passing through at an angle. The plate will bolt to the underside of the floor with a foam gasket to seal it. The cables will have a foam gasket wrapped around them and will be forced into the 2 tubes for a tight, leak proof fit. Here’s an example of a cable passing through one of the tubes:

So once I had that figured out, I needed to cut a big hole in the floor of the 4Runner. I cut it just behind the front seat mount, right next to where the inverter will be mounted.

You can use the factory wiring hole in the firewall. I made a small "+" incision then pulled the wire through gently. I've had zero issues with dust or moisture coming through.

That's how mine is ran, across the top of the inner fender, then down right next to the clutch M/C to the inside of the frame rail, used some clamps to hang it up with the rear brake lines right through there, then took it towards the middle around the gas tank and up through one of the holes that are already in the cargo area.

I'd had it ran though the firewall and through the inside before and it's really hard to get all of the trim pieces to sit right with that big of a wire ran through some of the tighter spots.

Again, I'm an Auto, so not sure how much this helps at all. FWIW, I was working with a truck that was already wired for an amp with 8guage wire. I used the same hole as p/o, just enlarged it with a nice metal drill bit to fit the 0guage thru. A Step bit would have been nice. A grommet would be nice, but it doesn't keep me up at night not having one because it is a SNUG fit for that 0guage to get through my enlarged hole. (TWSS)
