Best platform for 22re swap

I am looking to buy 1st gen and most of what I am seeing for sale in my area (SC midlands) is V6, mostly automatics. I do see one high mileage 1989 with V6 & 5 speed manual about an hour away. Am I correct to assume the V6 with 5 speed manual is the best platform if I want to end up with 22re with 5 speed manual or are there other platforms that I should also consider?

The hunt continues..................

Why would swap rip out a gutless engine to replace it with an even more gutless engine? Engine mounts are different between the R and the VZ from what I understand. Buy a 3VZ V6 and swap in a 5VZFE if you want. Engine mounts are the same from what I understand with a minor body lift needed for the 5VZ to clear the hood. There is no point going through all that work to be left with an engine dating back to the 50's that barely puts out more than 100HP at crank.

You'd need new mounts as stated you'd have to rewire the truck you'd have to get new trany and tcase new drive lines. The 5vze 3.4l 95 and up engine as stated is bolt in you'll need the wiring harness and a 1 in body lift there are many threads about it. You are going to need a radiator I think but I'm sure as long as you get a 5 speed

I'm a huge 22RE fan, but why on earth you'd choose to swap one into a 4Runner is completely beyond me.

If you have to do it, it'd be marginally easier to swap a 22RE/W56 into a truck that's already manual, yes, because the clutch pedal assembly and clutch master are already in the truck.
